They seem to gain a hell of a lot of attention for a band that churn out grating mediocre post punk , And i'd guess 90% of that attention is down to Albini alone.

And considering they are Albini's band their albums are horribly produced.

I don't think they're awful by any means , I just find they very rarely rise above mediocre enough to warrant their praise & attention.

There are/were much better bands out there doing this sort of stuff.
I like Big Black a lot but I can definitely see what you're saying. They do get too much hype.

I gave a few albums to my friend and he's convinced they're heavy metal. But yeah, I don't like them nearly as much as I thought I would. I find it incredible how many people LOVE Songs About Fucking when there might be one or two good songs on the whole damn record.

I like the whole damn record but I have to be in the right mood for it.

to be quite honest

Any band that falls under the 'Brit-pop'/'Indie' genre that is plaguing the British music charts is so incredibly overrated it's not even funny anymore

And what even worse is that every one of their fans claims that each band is unique and different and is completely going to change the music scene.
It's just like, 'No, not they're not... shut up'

I'd say the whole first half is perfect personally.
Production-wise i would only have it up louder

I think BIG BLACK are the schizz personally and the production is WHY they stand out a little more. They are not one of my favourite bands but I do like them a lot.

I actually appreciate some of the songs Jack White writes, mostly the songs that haven't been made into singles, like "There's No Home for You Here". It's quite good.

However I think the group "Crystal Castles" is overrated. Completely. Hate them with all my being.

They played over 1200 shows together before they had ever come to the states during the British invasion. Shows in which, they played at a strip club in Germany, for eight hours at a time! If that's not dedication... I don't know what is. They weren't even that great when they first started out, in fact they weren't even called the Beatles, but I definitely can't say they're overrated when they completely and totally deserve where they stand in rock and roll history.
