i always see people with DSOTM shirts/sweatshirts and wonder if they actually listen to Pink Floyd or if they just want to say they do. I think there are a good portion of them who do listen to the band but a certain percentage who just want to look cool. Probably the same people, or same type of people, who listen to Good Charlette and say "Yeah, i listen to punk - I'm cool".

Just because millions have loved Zeppelin and Floyd before you doesn't make you any less original. Just because you weren't born in the 70's when things happened for the first time, doesn't mean you can't still be original. Thats like saying religion should only be for the ones who first 'discovered' God . So what, we can't believe in him because it's been done before? We have to create a new God for this generation? I'd far sooner find someone original if they wore a Floyd t-shirt then a Greenday t-shirt or something that is currently 'in'. It shows they've gone against the grain and listened to something that does sound different to what is on offer today, which more often then not, requires a greater amount of will to appreciate then something like Greenday that is force fed to us whether we want to listen to it or not. |
That isnt what I meant
Kashmir said that listening to Floyd and Zep sets you apart Yet, they are a hugely popular bands, even today, with millions upon millions of fans Liking them is hardly origional |

How many bands nowadays consider Floyd a influence, very few, i can only name some at the top of my head...Muse, Radiohead, Mars Volta, Secret Machines, Coldplay, Porcupine Tree, etc. |

But I never claimed liking them set me apart |

*sigh* that has nothing to do with it, a band can have tons of fans and not have millions of bands that sound like it. |
