I was going to say I agreed earlier, but I didn't want to spoil this.

Track 1(Love) Good powerful start, goes a little off when the vox come in but they're not the worst. Drummer going wild here. At least it's not boring me. Some quality shredding going on here. Hmm. Fades out on a heavy chugging guitar. Interesting.
Track 2(Love) This is good too. Mostly slower, grindier, but it does kick up on a fast guitar about halfway
Track 3(Love) Now we're getting reflective/introspective guitar? Doesn't last of course, and we're off on another rocket ride. Nice guitar work here. Another one that fades.
Track 4(Love) Sort of a progressive metal opening
Track 5 Yeah, not mad about this one.
Track 6(Love) This one is good though; good sort of swaying rhythm to some of it
Track 7(Love) This one really rocks along; nice kind of echoey guitar. Great hammering percussion. Is that a bit of classical guitar, right at the end??
Track 8(Love) Nice sort of eastern feel to this
Track 9(Love) This one goes through some changes; versatile. I like it. Excellent guitar outro, unexpected.

End result: It might just be that, as I said, I was so bored and numb after suffering through Portishead that I would have welcomed any metal or even hard rock, just something to shake things up. But whatever, I really enjoyed this. Put me with it in another situation, I couldn't say for certain I would still like it, but at the moment it's just what the metal doctor ordered.

So, Love or Hate? On the basis of the above, this is a Love. Hey! I'm a poet and was not aware of that fact!

I knew you could do it, Trollheart.

In fairness, I owe a lot of that Love to Portishead. Had it not been for them making me want to open my veins (except I wouldn't be so presumptuous as to deprive the world of me) I might not have liked it so much. Honestly, after that, I would probably have given Merzbow some Love. Or even you. Although, let's not go mad here....

Why don't you go ahead an pretend that the albums I recommend are double album split records with Portishead as the first disc if that's the case.

That's a very different kind of death metal album, so it's not all Portishead's doing.

Title: The Monitor
Artiste: Titus Andronicus
Genre: Punk (thanks man!)
Familiarity: Zero
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monitor_(album)

Track 1(Love) Starts off with Lincoln's address and then kicks into a high-energy riff that I have to admit is pretty infectious, even nodding back to Springsteen's classic. Slows down about halfway with a very celtic guitar riff, almost a reel, picks up again then near the end. Yeah, pretty damn good I must say.
Track 2(Love) Kind of like a carryover from the opener. Like this.
Track 3(Love) Yeah, really like this one too.
Track 4(Love) Sort of a mixture of punk, Country and Irish trad!
Track 5(Love) Hmm. Previous track flows right into this one on a humming guitar. Slow, laidback start then turning powerful and punchy, though still slow. Like this a lot. But then, so far I've pretty much loved everything here. Picking up in speed now, still pretty damn good. Great piano. And cello?
Track 6(Love) Another one that starts off slow, with nice guitar and synth
Track 7(Love) Great fiddle on this; love the energy. A real bitter drinking song.
Track 8(Love) Like a Country ballad; piano is great, so is the female vocal. Fantastic song, wonderful instrumental passage.
Track 9(Love) Reprise really of the second track. Still great. Love the sax.
Track 10(Love) Just a great closer; love how he gets angrier as it goes on. Fourteen minutes of this should be hard to pull off. It's not. Hell, even the hated bagpipes can't ruin it for me!

End result: Another surprise. I didn't know what to expect, but I didn't expect this. Props to jtf!

So, Love or Hate? Has to be a Love.

Title: This is happening
Artiste: LCD Soundsystem
Genre: Dance-punk?
Familiarity: Zero
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_I...#Track_listing

Track 1(Love) Very low-key start, laidback with a sort of tinny vocal and fairly minimal instrumentation. Okay, just took me by surprise there, blasting out a big drumbeat and thick synth. Yeah, that was pretty ok.
Track 2(Love) This is more what I think of as punk, without too much aggression though.
Track 3(Love) And this is more synthy, new-wave, dancy. Pretty hypnotic. Reminds of the HL. Overlong though at seven minutes, does not need to be that long.
Track 4(Love) Ooh I really like the melody in this one. Very catchy. Mind you, the off-key synth runs near the end are quite annoying, like interference or video game noise. No idea why they have to be there.
Track 5(Love) Another new-wavey tune. Quite nice.
Track 6(Love) Soft little oriental start to this. Lyric is very clever, obviously directed at their label. Very reminiscent of The Cars.
Track 7(Love) Interesting spoken vocal, reminds me of Talking Heads
Track 8(Love) Sort of a slow shuffle, some great piano and horns
Track 9(Love) Nice uptempo synthy/dance pop track

End result: I'm struggling to see the punk element here, other than the rather frenetic second track. Very enjoyable all around, nothing bad to say. Hey! Does this make me a hipster now? Yeah, right...

So, Love or Hate? This is a Love
