Default The Great Global Warming Swindle

Friends jumping on the bandwagon? Thinking about buying a crappy "hybrid" car? Watch this movie and educate yourself.

The Great Global Warming Swindle - Google Video

and read this

Aliens Cause Global Warming

both are long, but anyone with any interest in anything that will happen in the next 20 years regarding this (as this WILL become the biggest worldwide issue within the next few years), watch and read.

And discuss

Yeah, I watched a few minutes of the first video, and they all looked like a bunch of liars. I guess, as the world becomes increasingly aware of the abundance of conspiracy theorists, there is a place for counter-conspiracy theorists.

Some of our fears are irrational, like the fear of nuclear war. However, global warming is very real. My gosh, you don't even have to listen to the *experts* who voice their concern it's real. Just pay attention to the weather the last couple of years.

There have been SOOO many threads on this, that often go on for pages and pages and pages about weather or not global warming is real, argument afte argument for both sides, some valid, some downright retarded. My only comment on it is, to anyone who doesn't believe in global warming; what if you're wrong? the consequnses of global warming (if we're assumng everything we've been told is 100% true and will happen) are SO severe, and SO damaging, isn't it worth working to stop and reverse those effects even if you're not 100% sure if it's really going on or not?

You are wrong for several reasons (please watch the whole video, as it will expand on the points I am about to make)

1. It's not global warming that's the issue. I believe and all scientist do, that the earth is heating up. The point to contigentcy is whether or not humans have any direct impact/can do anything about it. And the answer is we can't.

2. Greenhouse gases make up roughly .4-1% of the gases in our enviroment. CO2 makes up roughly .02 of the gases in our atmosphere. Water vapor is a much more prevalent and "dangerous" greenhouse gas, and yet you don't see an uproar on that.

3. Dying vegitation and the ocean produce 12 times the amount of CO2 that humans do. So if we can't drive cars or fly planes anymore, let's evaporate the oceans and destroy all the forest too. Better safe than sorry right?

4. As the video goes to explain, enviromental journalists have a very political agenda. Telling the press that the worst that could happen is that the seas rise by 1-2 feet won't get you news attention, so you increase it to 10-20 feet, and your name is in print and you're in demand as a journalist.

5. And the solution that is proposed by all these "activists" who use pseudo-science to get their political agenda across is too drastically cut back on industry. This has 2 major ramifications: 1. This means that the 3rd world can't develop. No electricity, not power plants, no modern essentials (cars, trains, planes), nothing. 2. Cutting back industry reduces capital. Less money results in less research. The solution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions isn't in cutting back buisness, but to allow them to invest funds in finding out ways to control it.

6. The reason given for the heating a cooling of the earth (by the way in the 70's the scare was that the world was headed toward another Ice Age) in the video is that of sunspot activity on the sun. Sunspots are periods of intense magnetic energy, and as a result the energy output is greatly increased. As far back as the records show (mid 1600's) there is a very intimate relationship (+.76) between Sunspot activity and Global temperature. During the "Little Ice Age" of the 1700's, sunspot activity was very low, and the river Thames froze over in England!

7. All in all, this is a media driven big buisness. Look behind the "facts".

And TUTG, this isn't a conspiracy theory, if anything, the pro-humans cause GW are conspiracy theorist.

From what I can gather about the effects of 'greenhouse gases' and their place in global warming as a whole, humans probably would be able to lessen the extent of global warming slightly if they stopped using fossil fuels and doing all of those other human activities which produce CO2, but the major contributions to global warming come from sources beyond our control. I'd guess you'd have to get everybody on the planet to stop driving cars, using electricity, using fires and close down all the factories and airlines just to knock the average temperature down a few points of a degree. Most people wouldn't know what to do if you removed these utilities, including those in most parts of developing countries, so 'risking' a slightly higher temperature when its going to go up anyway is definitely worth it.

In my opinion a better plan is to focus less on how to minimise global warming and to start thinking and planning how we should deal with the global warming which IS going to happen. Well, I say we. Countries which might be going underwater or in which people will start dying when it gets too hot should start thinking.

RAR look up the "LOL at Al Gore" thread or something similar that was posted a couple days ago. I posted a large argument similar to yours. You might enjoy reading it.

1. I agree with you to an extent. I don't think people can do ANYTHING to change it. But even if we could, quality of life > .2 degree change.

2. Agreed.
