Nu Metal

I'm not a huge fan of Nu Metal. Just doesn't do much for me. I'll listen to recommendations though, if anyone has any.

Edit: If I had to recommend just one album of his, it'd be "Jump Up Calypso"...

But the album "Calypso" was pretty popular in it's time, and I love the album cover because at a glance it kinda looks like he has seven fingers on his left hand.

I have never been a fan of Linkin Park (save for maybe one or two songs); to me, they have a very generic and even non-metal sound.

I don't understand why there's so much hate for Slipknot and System Of A Down, though. Yes, Slipknot is more commercial now but I still believe their music is great. System Of A Down is really one-of-a-kind with its style and its Armenian influences, and I love how their messages are so meaningful in many songs. Just because something is in a certain genre like nu-metal doesn't mean that it sucks. (Plus, I wouldn't even say SOAD is nu-metal; it's more like alt metal.)

I'm glad a lot of us agree that Disturbed is not actually nu-metal. Not to say that being nu-metal is bad; it's just that confusing the style of one band for another genre makes for a bit of devaluation of all that the band worked to produce.

Both of those are great albums, especially the second one. An interesting piece of trivia about them though is that they're not actually calypso despite the titles. The style of music on those albums is mento, but the record label simply labelled all carribean music as "calypso" back in the 50s. This was done because they were marketed to an American audience and Americans knew the word "calypso" but not the word "mento".

You sound like you know a bit about Calypso.

I have to admit, i'm but a newbie. Do you know of any solid albums that you think we'd like?
