I thought it was commonly known by know Dani California sounds like Mary Jane's Last Dance.

Anyway, you can take even the most generic band name and say "Song A doesn't sound like Song B." While in reality they still have songs C,D,E,F,G,H and I that all sound like song A and the same can be said for Song B.

my point is if any band can pride itself in having diversity in its songs, its them. Slow songs to fast rap songs...id say thats pretty different. I have a feeling he doesnt like them cus he thinks there to mainstream now

Actually it's only the drumming which is similar, and it's a basic beat so...But whether or not it sounds like Tom Petty is irrevelant to the discussion. There's not a single song on BSSM that sounds like Dani California, Tell Me Baby, Slow Cheetah, Charlie...I could go on and on.

Bowie ? Radiohead ? The Cure ? The Clash ? Roxy Music ? I could go on.

The reason I can't stand this band are pretty simple , everytime I hear some boring middle of the road stadium rock dirge on the radio it's always followed by the same 11 words

"That was the new single by the red hot chili peppers"

Im hoping you realize that 99% of there music has rarely or never been played on the radio. They have over 400 songs of which the majority have never seen a glimpse of airtime.

They don't even have 400 songs and are you serious? I mean its obvious that was a made up percentage but they've had a number of hits over the years. Dani California, Under the Bridge, Californication, Fortune Faded, Otherside, Scar Tissue, Can't Stop, By the Way, etc. I'm not even a fan and I can name a handful that i've heard on the radio frequently.

It's ridiculous to say that they're not mainstream, as has already been argued.

Unrealeased, Bside, covers, and released they have over 400. And theres probably more i dont know about.

Ad the percentage obviously wasnt exact, it was to make a point.

edit: Theres what.. maybe 20-30 songs that have been big radio songs from them. Thats a pretty small amount compared to what they have made. And they have had a few hundred actually released studio songs.

Who says I only hear them on the radio?
Just a few weeks ago I had to endure every single boring minute of Stadium Arcadium when a guy I work with was playing it in the office.

Live covers don't count as for unreleased and b-sides even assuming they had twice the amount they put on albums you're still short.

Lets assume about 15 songs an album, the last one was a double album so thats 10 albums. 15 times ten is 150. Lets assume they record twice the amount they release, that would still only be 300. I highly doubt they've been on one hundred compilations and my generalizations on b-sides were very generous. It would probably be more accurate to say 200 than 400.
