Default John Mayer - Battle Studies

John Mayer has always pushed my limits as a guitarist, and this album is no exception.

I'll give it an 8/10 comparatively to his other albums.

Besides his horrible rendition of Crossroads and his idiotic attempt to break into country/pop, Half of my Heart, I really LOVE IT!

However, I do respect his variety... it makes him human. Listening to 45 minutes of the same sound in no way is John Mayer. I know Half of my Heart will grow on me, and maybe expand my own musical boundaries.

Assassin, now this song baffles me. To me it is already a classic. I cannot recall hearing anything like it. It seems to lie around the fringes of all of the music styles that make up his own.

THUMBS UP!

Edit: Lyrically, the album is a step up from his previous albums I believe. Sometimes saying less, really says more to me.

First time I heard Mayer, I thought he was a crappy pop artist, than I saw him perform live on TV and was blown away. He can really tear it up.

I'll definitely check this album out.

Listen to Neon. Check it out acoustic. Still blows me away. I can't play it correctly after two years of trying to. I get it prob 80% of the time. He really is a great guitarist.

My respect for Mayer grew much more when I saw him live. The passion and emotion that he delivers with each song performed rekindled my love for music and allowed me to expand my musical abilities.

John Mayer is just a great artist. He always manages to deliver an album with memorable songs. I admit that when he first studies Battle, I expected something much along the lines of Continuum. But then I started listening, I realized I really liked the music even though it is a deviation from what is published elsewhere. Now, after 4 days of having the album, I find myself singing their songs at work or in my car ..... another keeper.
