One of Bandcamp's Best: Blue

I'm quite the Bandcamp.com explorer, and I like to support fellow online users who have made their own music, whether a friend or some random artist. *No Bandcamp album has the production or catchiness that Hayden Who's Blue has. *What a relaxing album.

The beautiful production of Blue starts from the very beginning: Mr. Who, a pretty tune with light jazz piano, quickly changing into an instrumental hip hop extravaganza of high and low reverb. *The next track, Going Somewhere, is the best track on the album and in Hayden's discography, being my introduction to nu jazz and my favorite jazz track, staying cool, calm, and pretty, eventually bringing electric guitar into the mix. *Going Somewhere also has a J Dilla interview in the background at the end, a common add-on to the tracks of Blue. *This is also apparent in the next track, Blu(e). *Sketching is a fast-paced track with some interesting instruments for a jazz album, including bongo drums and maracas. *After the short but extremely catchy Sloppy Jazzalude, Hayden Who's Paul Simon based Old Friends includes a samples from an interview of Simon and one of his songs before turning into another soothing melody with high piano. *Could this be a jazzy tribute to the pair? *The next track, The City in My Pocket, carries an instantly memorable recorder riff that blends in well with the rest of the music. *Next comes The Penthouse, a wonderful blend of hip-hop and nu jazz that gets my insides moving before more amazing flute and reverb show up. *A brilliant track. *After the lounge Interlude, the beautiful and relaxing Can You Teach Me How to Dance is a go to track for relieving tension. *The next great track is The Brick Wall in the Back Alley, a title that sounds as mysterious as the tune. *Next is Her, with great but slightly annoying vocals. *Finally, more memorable piano playing in The Piano Man brings the album to a closing.

I feel that the reasons for this album being ignored is not only due to zero promotion and the fact it's a Bandcamp album, but because most avant-garde albums have very long tunes whereas Blue is made up of tracks ranging from 30 seconds to 4 minutes.

That's the vibe I got from avant-garde fans. I was really referring to the discography, not the album. It was a flaw on my part. It's an old review. Not sure abot the asterisks.

I think you might get that vibe because said album isn't avant-garde at all.

It's not bad though.

Instrumental Hip Hop. A fave genre of mine. Haven't heard many "albums," though.
