Regarding the concept of a long term member forum, I suppose there are three ways to organise this:

Admittance through:
post count. Not necessarily a good idea because it may encourage people to spam to get in, but it is a very broad and objective way to decide the matter.

agreement of current members already with access. Solidifies the idea that this is a group which is relatively self-determining and means they can set their own criteria as to what represents a worthy member. Has the downside that it can ingrain a mindset of elitism, on that board and the rest of the site.

agreement of the mods/staff. Functional depending on how immersed the mods are within the community. Bonus is that it leaves you guys with full control over suitable criteria and can reward members as you see fit. May help to prevent elitism and negate the mentality of the Old Boys Club, there again may not.

As a whole though I definitely think such a forum is a good idea. It gives people a place to blow off steam and helps to prevent outbursts. Condenses less mature posting to a place where it won't affect proper discussion.

I dont know if this is happening with other people but the resolution for this website keeps changing. At the moment i can barely read the text. It's not happening with any other websites that i go on, just this one. And it's nothing to do with my computer either cos i haven't changed the resolution in a while.

What the hell is going on???
