Because if I come on and I see a new member with a crap load of posts I know instantly that they're here to spam and I can just click on his name & delete the lot. The whole process taking all of 10 seconds.
Hell , a lot of the time I stop these people by the time they get to 7 or 8 posts

If they could post links in their first post it wouldn't be anywhere near as obvious and I would have to go checking every new name for this stuff which would take a hell of a lot longer.
