You are able to delete your own posts when you click Edit.

I'm wondering why you stay here instead of going to another forum that you might enjoy more...

Which one would that be?

My ally on this doesn't seem to post much more than I do nor start better threads, and her lead by example doesn't seem to have helped.

Your complaints are duly noted as is your lack of interest in even following your own guidelines. Please move on.

Yawn.

In terms of rude replies, let us remember who came to this forum and started complaining about how it doesn't work right. This forum works fine, and has a lot of activity and a lot of great people. If you took the time to get to know them, you'd understand that we don't care about the activity, it's the people that we care about. They're what makes this forum what it is, it's not the content.

The search function seems to prioritize newer threads over older ones, even if the older has keywords in the title itself. It makes it difficult to find threads, and I've given up searching many times.

The search function for vBulletin has always been a bit...sucky. I rarely ever use it unless I know what i'm searching will be easy to find.

I believe vBulletin is also fairly configurable, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of plugin out there for a search optimization.

We've petitioned having the search function revamped, but so far have not heard anything from the administrators, and probably won't unfortunately. I would recommend using a google search with the keywords "Musicbanter" and whatever kind of thread you're looking for. That usually garnishes some positive results.

I'm not too sure on that one. A few other forums that I used to go on used vBulletin, and the same complaints came from the search function. There may be some optimization that could be done, but it seems like a lot of the forums (for vBulletin) seem to go with the default setting, which really doesn't seem to work too well.

EDIT: But as Pete said, Google searching does a better job than the search function does.

All I have to say is:

I truly don't understand your problem. Are you saying that people shouldn't talk among themselves so much, should concentrate on creating/maintaining music topics? Is this an office? Are we at work, where we all huddle in our cubicles and dare say nothing out of place? No, it's a community, a place to shoot the breeze, catch up with the people you like/have similar interests to/want to annoy/whatever, and not always take yourself too seriously. It's a place to kick back and relax in.

I always think of MB as a pub or club, where you can go to meet your mates. No-one says in the pub you have to discuss football, or music, or women, or men, and if someone strays off topic no-one says "Hey! Hey! That's not the subject! Stay on topic! And mine's a pint!" Well, maybe the last part... :D

Why should any site like this try to maximise its members at the expense of the overall enjoyment and success of the forum? Quantity over quality? Surely not. This is the sort of place where you can say what's on your mind, laugh and joke with people, slag them off, be slagged, make smart replies and occasionally talk about music.

That said, I maintain three separate journals here, so no-one could accuse me of not being dedicated or not taking the discussion of music seriously. It's just you want other stuff too. It's not a job, as I say, it's fun. Remember fun?

Anyhoo, if only two of you have a problem with the way the site is run, then it's hardly really a problem at all, is it? Everyone else seems happy... To quote Spock, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Or the one."

And that's nothing if not logical.
