Probably mid-sixties, The Sun was the first mainstream Brit newspaper to feature a topless girlie pic everyday. For reasons either of modesty or legality, they were never on the front page, but open the newspaper, and there she was, staring out at you from page three. Pretty soon, everybody knew what a "page three girl" was:- https://www.thesun.co.uk/topic/page-3/

If you're curious, here's a thumbnail guide to UK newspapers:-

A Telegraph reader wants a Conservative to run the country. A Guardian reader wants a Liberal to run the country. A Sun reader doesn't care who runs the country as long as she has big boobs.

But the next day (I think it was a Monday, so the celebrations continued over the weekend) The Sun put a topless girl on Page 3 again and on the front page it said 'We've had a mammary lapse...'

They trolled them basically.

If you say this isn't funny, you had to be there at the time.

Much as it pains me, I got to give The Sun that one.
Guess it makes up for decades of ****ty puns. Whoever thought up the idea of using Wayne Rooney as "Roo" was a good one?
