It seems like people expect the mods to cater to everyone's needs and want them be some kind of superpeople who always make the right move. It's a ****ing internet forum, for ****s sake, if you don't like the way it's run then leave. Also, I definitely don't think the community of MB should be involved in the decision to ban a member. Our mods do their jobs and they do them well; none of my complaints are directed toward them.

That was one massive post Erica. I'm a fast reader, and it seemed neverending. your renound for that.

I don't have any complaints about the moderation on here at all really.
I think the moderators have a good judgement of character (meaning they find it effortless to spot spammers etc.) and react quickly to the problems. I don't find the mod's to be elitest or on power trips at all, I find the mod's as easy to get on with as I do normal members, and no offense to anyone who thinks they do a bad job, but your probably pissed off because they gave you a warning etc, because you done something wrong. Its the way its supposed to work. You can't let one off, without letting others off. So it's only fair to keep all members in check. Even ones mod's favour.

That's just my opinion really. I'm sure older members who have been here a much longer time than me have a more eagle-eyed point of view of MusicBanter and probably see it alot differently from me.

edit: Nooo my beautiful post count  damn. I should have kept my opinion to myself

As I mentioned just now in another thread, a problem with with involving regular members in the moderation process is also that regular members don't necessarily see all the trouble some members cause. Quite often, offending posts and threads are deleted so most people don't get to read them. Sometimes, the line is crossed in private messages.

For this reason, sometimes decisions to moderate some members may seem harsher than they are.

That's exactly what I assumed.

As was the case with The Unfan.

This is not something we have control over I'm afraid. As far as I know, it has to do with google and is non-negotiable. At least there are workarounds!

That's not a mod decision that's an Admin decision.
With a swear filter in place the site gets a bigger Google ranking.

It's not going to be got ridden of anytime soon i'm afraid.

As long as there's a logical answer to it, I've got no problem with it :p:

Warnings are always given out to members reminding them of the rules but if they continue to antagonise mods and other members then they get what's coming to them.

I really don't understand the need for people to be idiots on internet forums, is their life that damn boring that they have to be rude bastards to people? Life is crap enough as it is sometimes without getting hassle on here.

Mods do fine and you would be surprised how few infractions are handed out to regular members, much less permabannings.

To Erica,

thanks for the suggestions :) They are both interesting!

I'm not sure if all punishment should be subject to comment and scrutiny from the regular members. Something peple should remember is that we don't always enjoy our job and on occasion, we make decisions we think are tough. The system as it is with moderators wouldn't work as smoothly as it does if we had to answer not only to other mods, but to the whole community every time we make a decision and having people judge our every move would make us vulnerable and the job more unpleasant .. I think.
I like your first suggestion better, the one where an MB Jury can turn a tempban into a permban.

Thanks for your reply, Tore. I understand the points you make. My first suggestion was to have an MB jury that can turn a permban into a tempban (rather than the reverse)...I think you knew that and just reversed the words, but I wanted to mention it just in case.

Hey, NumberNineDream,
Luckily for free speech there is a way around the curse censor...and it looks like you know it, since you are able to type Herbie Hancock!

I don't even understand why someone would say there's a moderation problem on here. I've never seen a problem with any member that wasn't dealt with in an appropriate manor, and I've only seen them band a longstanding member when it was completley neccesary.

Also MB Courtroom idea FTW.
