Out of interest, does anybody think that this level of curiosity about users' previous avatars is mind-bogglingly obsessive behavior that should be relentlessly shunned?

Yep.

Agreed. That would be a bit pointless even for me. I too noticed how much interest there seems to be about previous avvies, but you're probably right that we shouldn't really take too much notice of it. The reason I suggested it was that I've read a lot of posts saying something to the extent of "I only remeber people by their avatars". But that I suppose is their problem and I won't bring it up again.
Shall I stick to just cataloging name changes?

You actually thought people here can't remember a new name and need to rely on a database of previous avatars to find their friends? The new name with the old one is enough. They still know the username and will learn the new one. And just like they learned any previous avatar, they will learn a new one. And thankfully, they won't have to visit this thread every time they want to recognize who it is that has posted in a thread...

The name change list is enough.

It was a really daft suggestion and I'm glad for one I'm not being taken seriously on it. I'm wondering why I actually posted it.
In my defense, I have seen a lot of people say they only remember people by username, but that's their problem I guess. However, I'm not for a moment asking for that last suggestion to be looked at seriously anymore.

Just names.

Nah, I was just wondering what the thought process was behind it. This thread is a good enough idea for quick reference. So good job on that much.

Most likely alcohol ;)

Well thanks, it's not meant to be as important or as comprehensive as tore's album reviews index, but really as you put just a quick reference if there's a poster in your friends list you don't know or something.

I don't like this reference. What if my name change was for a fresh identity, to be a new person, unbound by the clenches of my former self.

I;m not the old me anymore

I'm sure there's still a spark of your former self down there somewhere...

That's why you're not on the list - if you don't want to be there, don't mention it and I won't add you.

Would it be possible/helpful to include names of people if say...they requested a ban on an old account / forgot the password of an old account to be listed here with the name of their new account? I only say that, because I fit into that category. I don't think we have a lot of those people here, but it's just something that comes to mind.

Though, I can understand if people want a bit of privacy in that situation. I know my old account was just...full of epic fails.

This is an interesting idea, obviously it would only be if the user had no objection to me archiving it for reference. I think I could include in brackets - [account disabled] for the old one if they like.

Why not?

That'd be a pretty easy way to go with it. It's just good to have that option open in case it comes up.
