Wait, hold on, I think there's a smiley everyone uses to statements like this.

Oh, it's this one:

He's not an idiot. He's just better at strategy when it comes to delivery without revealing a response, in order to make an opponent create his argument for him, which is quite smart.

I feel like I've made it clear that I'm arguing in generalities, but if it doesn't come off that way then I apologize. One thing that's a fact is that other people keep bringing this up, which is why this conversation is still going. Not to immaturely point fingers, but I didn't even start this either, I posted an aside about why I dislike the word and that was it. Others jumped on that statement, and I defended why I felt that way by stating that my internet "origins" were on communities where calling someone a noob was a huge insult. Jans refused to believe something like that could ever be the truth, and he continues to do so, and the cycle kept continuing. There's really nowhere else this simple, ridiculous argument could go because my side is literally just fact, and that doesn't even have anything to do with egos or the satisfaction of being proven right because almost everyone else on the internet knows my side is just basic knowledge lol.
I hear ya. Things tend to get muddled up. So we all pretty much agree with the fact that we really don't need to go on with this, since it's all subjective, right?

Cool.

I hope everyone else also chalks it up to personal whatevers. Unless were here to debate about who's whatever are more correct than the other person's whatevers.
I mean, let's at least wrap this up.

YorkeDaddy 04-03-2014 09:03 PM

Yes, let's wrap this up by concluding that noob being derogatory in many contexts is an objective fact but whether it's found derogatory in this context (this particular forum) or not is subjective. This is not a hard conclusion to reach with some basic common sense. This is what I've been arguing the whole time. Somehow several people have been disagreeing with this.

I'm back.....and it's over.

Here, we don't use it that way, at least as long as I've been here. Otherwise it would fall under the guidance of one of our most basic rules. So really, I think the issue here is you not understanding how this website works. It doesn't work for your perceptions. It works for ours. And the sooner you come to accept that, the less hurt will exist in your posterior regions.

No offense. It's just us. Like it or not.

Hm....................................HMMMMMMM!

Fair enough.

Now I know of two people who consider it a derogatory term, several who don't, and 20,000 people who were apparently amused by an entry on Urban Dictionary.

Hmm, it appears I misinterpreted your earlier post...I apologize for the confusion.

I DO disagree with the bolded portions as I do not believe anybody has explicitly said it is not disparaging other than Fred Hale (not even Goofle said that), and I do not think you can support the claim that those 20087 people 'were apparently amused by an entry on Urban Dictionary.'

I'm fine leaving this as is though.

You're such a noob. I mean this in the most derogatory way.

Actually, they've been disagreeing with this:

But it's good to see you've moved on from that position.

Maybe my definition of "inherently" is wrong, but I used it there as in, "an important aspect in the creation/origin of something," and noob originated from from gamers calling other lesser gamers idiots. I apologize if my word choice helped spark the argument.

Wpnfire 04-03-2014 09:19 PM

I believe everything has been discussed here.

I don't think anybody gained anything from this thread.................................which is very sad as I basically started it.....boo.

Wait! No I remember a few things that anybody can take away from this thread! I refuse for this thread to end on a such a bad note.

Ah, that's better.

Scarlett O'Hara 04-03-2014 09:35 PM

Well, that's nice you've tried to end it on a positive note. I think everything has been discussed (albeit strawman arguments), so consider it closed.

There's only one definition of "inherently".

But yea, there are plenty interpretations of it.
