Are We Welcoming Enough To New People?

Why does only one or two people respond to new members when they introduce themselves in the introduction forum?

I personally think that the introductions sub-forum are a great way for new members to assess the mb community and encourages new members in staying active and contributing.

I've seen a ton of new members in the months I've been here and Carpe and Kartofelbri (however it's spelled) were the only people that remained active and posted more than just a few posts after they introduced themselves.

I think that having more people welcome new members is overall good for the site.

If there's one thing you can take away from my rant here: just reply and greet new members, it takes five seconds to do so. Then you can go back to whatever else you were doing.

A lot of profiles are simply spam. If you want to stick around you will.

Also when you are here long enough you will be able to tell which intro posts are people that will stick around or will just make an intro post and never post again.

Also you can tell the spammy ones too.

You're right, I know it sure made me feel good when people actually welcomed me.

So I'm gonna go do that.

What goofle said. Their are so many new accounts welcoming them all would be absurd. The ones that stay will get welcomed if they are a decent member.

I sort of... forgot to make an introduction thread when I registered. Made one for jokes a while ago.

Sorry Tom, but "if you want to stick around you will" is roughly nonsense. Not responding to new member posts makes this forum look A) empty and B) unfriendly. If I were signing up today, I'd probably get the sense I wasn't welcome here. I'd wager we've lost out on a number of great personalities because we don't put the effort into anything but squabbling or blowing air up one anothers' asses.

I think it would be pretty silly to assume that I was implying we shouldn't welcome new members.
