I'm an old man. Time passes differently now.

That reminds me, I'd forgotten about my rec thread! Another reason I miss grindy :(

"Buss?" What word did you misspell "bust," "boost" or "buzz?" Cause I can see it being any of them. You throw up a playlist on Spotify to get some buzz to boost MB membership, but then it turns out to be a marketing fail, a real bust. However if "buss" is a Boston thang then never you mind. It's my bad, didn't know whachatalkin'bout.

Omg, I've missed Poly's bizarre shitposts so much.

Not many people do. Some might stay just out of habit but the real meat and potatoes is uncommented on **** like putting whatever psy-fi is listening to on a playlist.

One of the mods can throw it up on Spotify. Start building some real marketing buss to bring in some new blood.

I don’t want new blood or not much of it honestly. Honestly idgaf about anyone unless I learn about music from them. There’s plenty of info here already.

If there’s anyone I miss it’s blarob because he turned me on to crazy ass metal and no one has filled that void. We have that one metal head who only posts extreme metal links but he doesn’t parse it down like blarob did. We really only need one poster who can help me metal out whenever I get back to where I can handle it again.

Coming really late to the discussion, I'd still like to chip in and applaud the bold comment in OH's post.

In music, my inclination is not so much to hear about the lastest release, but to delve backwards in time. MB has vast quantities of stuff : almost every artist known to man must've been mentioned here at least once, but there is an accessability problem because the search function can be disappointing.

For a while, I tried the "Bump & Blitz" game to encourage people to see the value of what we are sitting on in terms of music info, but the response was rather limited. Right now I am nagging Marie to make the Krautrock genre visible on MB; the jury is out, but Tristan is the only guy who has said, yeah, it's a genre that deserves a stickied thread.

I don't know how to get good new guys to stay around, but clear access to the info we already have on genres and artists may be part of it.

I'm not going to try and drag people to a site where no one wants them. If people don't want new blood, I only hope they aren't shocked when people get tired of the same old shtick and walk.

I use it a pretty lot and think it’s fine. What’s your beef with it?

I'm not sure if anyone is saying that, Big3: certainly it was never my intention to suggest that at all. I just meant to show that there are two ways to look for music recs: not just from new blood with new releases but in old archives too.

Maybe it's the way I use it, but sometimes it throws up way too many results and I find myself scanning through pages to find the thread that's really what I'm looking for.

I suspect that newcomers don't find the search function particularly useful either, hence they start up threads that we already have. Krautrock is a case in point: we have some massive threads on the topic that could act like good resources, but because they don't come to hand with a couple of clicks, new threads on the selfsame topic get opened. Sometimes the new threads only last for a handful of posts and when that happens they tend to obscure the search for the real MB gold which was laid down years ago.

If we merged and stickied a Krautrock rec thread, it could direct newcomers to MB's best Krautrock material, instead of leaving them to flounder around between several threads on essentially the same topic. Marie has very kindly offered to do it, but apart from Tristan, no one else supports the idea that Krautrock should have a permanent thread of reference on MB.

Well “utfse” is a message board standard.

Separating the wheat from the chaff is probably just an unavoidable inconvenience that comes with an open format like message boards and even the internet in general.

Still, unless someone is going to be a worthwhile music contributor who cares about the person? More people just means more watered down crap opinions from people with mediocre taste and little knowledge.
