This happens to me sometimes. If you notice it again, highlight one of the asterisks and type ALT+42 and that should fix it.

Okay... what does ALT 42 really do? Format the hard disk? Upload your music into the startup sound? Change the screensaver to something really embarrassing?

It's good to know that I am not the only person who gets these random asterisk after copying and pasting. I don't have a computer however and can't highlight and type ALT +42. Thank you for the suggestion however.
