I've only heard Young Team so far, but I definately have an interest in hearing the rest of their material. I've heard the odd song here and there too (like Auto Rock, which I found really incredible), but I guess I'm still somewhat of an unexperienced fan. I'm definately a big fan of the post-rock music I've heard, the slow development of it all, and the whole artistry that seems to be involved with it. So, does anyone have any suggestions as to what album I should maybe try out after Young Team? I'd love any thoughts you might have.

jackhammer 10-14-2008 03:02 PM

I adore the 'Zidane' film soundtrack and I also have Mr. Beast and Government Commissions which is a compilation of their radio sessions.

Whoever listens to Mogwai will always be smitten. Stunning band.

dac 11-04-2008 04:20 PM

I've convinced myself that 'Hunted by a Freak' is the best song of all time. I'm not even joking. I have never connected to a song so strongly.

debaserr 11-04-2008 04:46 PM

you got me thinkin, and here is my top 5 mogwai songs.

hunted by a freak
ratts of the capital
folk death 95
friend of the night
2 rights make 1 wrong

Blue 11-07-2008 08:37 AM

I recently got Mr. Beast, and I thought it was a good album. Off of the first listen, Auto Rock, Acid Food, Team Handed, Friend of the Night, Emergency Trap and I Chose Horses really caught my ear. I was actually going to get the Zidane soundtrack instead, because I'm a big fan of atmospheric kind of music, and I heard the album is more in that vein. Also, jackhammer, you seem to love it, and I respect your musical tastes. It will probably be the next one I get. I am interested in hearing Happy Music for Happy People as well though.

dac 11-07-2008 09:25 AM

Happy Music is a MUST own, it has what I think is their best song and it is probably their best album start to finish IMO.

Veronica Lodge 11-07-2008 09:33 AM

mogwai makes me happy.

they are so loud live, its insane.

hows about mono though?

seconded

adidasss 11-08-2008 02:07 AM

Ok, can anyone upload some albums for me? Soulseek curiously doesn't return any results for this group. Weird.

jackhammer 11-08-2008 08:05 AM

PM sent. I think you will find them boring though. I'm sure I remember you saying that you were'nt big on Post Rock. I hope I'm wrong though because they are immense.

Astronomer 11-10-2008 03:41 PM

I really want to get into this band, but have no idea where to start!

Agreed, you'll be hooked after the first song.

Sneer 01-01-2009 05:08 PM

I'd say start with Mr Beast, its easily the most accessable album they've made, i also think its their best personally. If you like that then Happy Songs For Happy People should be your next port of call - its a slightly more challenging listen but is almost on a par with Mr Beast. Mogwai Young Team also needs to be heard

That is an amazing song, no doubt.

I just want to force every mainstream rapper to listen to that song so they understand what an auto-tuner is really meant for.

scottsy 01-02-2009 10:30 PM

I'd have to go with everyone here who is saying start with Happy Songs for Happy People... its definitely the most readily accessible Mogwai album with the classic sound of the band...

But also, make sure soewhere on the Journey you don't miss out on Young Team. That album is a genuine Post - rock classic, and make sure you play all of "Mogwai Fear Satan" in its entirety, often. Seriously, its a piece of music that can literally bring a tear to my eye just with its amazing, epic beauty. I love Mogwai.

I really need to hurry my ass up and buy a copy of The Hawk is Howling...

dac 01-12-2009 08:56 PM

How perfect is "My Father, My King" ?

Farfisa 01-13-2009 02:25 PM

They did a lovely cover of "Honey" by Spacemen 3.

jackhammer 01-13-2009 02:57 PM

He will be able to hear it soon!

Mojo 01-13-2009 05:10 PM

Ive been listening to Mogwai recently and although I can hear and appreciate the talent I assumed I would really dig them and I simply don't yet. It's almost like I'm waiting for that to change but it's not happening.

Its mainly Young Team and Come On Die Young that I've been listening to and based on posts in this thread I may go and listen to Happy Songs For Happy People.

Sneer 01-13-2009 05:12 PM

Sigh, Mr Beast all the way.

Mojo 01-14-2009 06:35 AM

I've listened to Happy Songs and Mr. Beast now and I'm liking them a lot more now. I'll prbably need another few listens before I can completely make my mind up.

If that BBC Sessions is doing the rounds can someone throw it my way please? :)

jackhammer 01-14-2009 06:47 AM

I'm upping it now as mediafire has gone all sucky. Be up in about 10 minutes :)

Nice one cheers! Im downloading the Shoegaze comp now so I'll contribute to that thread when I've had a chance to listen to it. The few MB comps I've downloaded in my relatively short time here have been ace. Maybe I should make one *strokes beard*...

jackhammer 01-14-2009 07:04 AM

PM'S sent :)

Piss Me Off 01-14-2009 07:13 AM
