under 08-29-2006 11:37 PM

Hmm....I would probably put them under rock. I love their music as well especially the song "Summer". Great song

Spike*Spiegel 08-29-2006 11:42 PM

theyre post-rock... very typical post-rock in fact, one of the leading bands in the genre.

Young Team is my favourite of theirs, followed by Mr. Beast. Got to see them live earlier this year in a awesome intimate venue, they were sectacular.. and the loudest band i've ever seen.

swim 09-09-2006 06:05 PM

Chocky might just be my favorite song ever. They're awesome and I think I like post-rock more every single day.

spinner 09-22-2006 12:03 AM

My local record store just has them under 'Rock', but yes I agree, post-rock.
I like everything off the Ten Rapids album.

Sound Devastation 09-22-2006 07:18 AM

Very few record stores have a 'post-rock' section.... Selectadisc and Sister Ray do though!

The Dave 09-22-2006 07:25 AM

Wikipedia says Post Rock, wikipedia is always correct. my favorite song by them is You Don't Know Jesus.

Collective Unconsciousnes 11-07-2006 09:28 AM

These guys are definatly awesome. You should check out do make say think or the appleseed cast if you like them :)

IndiElectronica 11-07-2006 09:33 AM

easily the best gig i've seen this year, i'd say it will stay that way. DO go see them live if you can..it's an (ear blowing!) experience!

Sound Devastation 11-08-2006 04:36 PM

If you like Mogwai.. check out From The Sky..

"'Someone to Remember' rivals Mogwai's 'Mogwai Fear Satan' and Explosions In The Sky's 'Memorial' as a crowd pleaser. Sheer bliss..." (the silent ballet)

:D

i agree they are stunning (and stupidly loud) live!

Sneer 10-31-2007 02:41 PM

ive been rinsing mr beast and happy songs for happy people recently. Theyre just a ridiculously good band, my favourite song is probably hunted by a freak or travel is dangerous at the moment. When it comes to creating mood and atmosphere theres few better than mogwai.

jackhammer 10-31-2007 02:44 PM

I need to get some of their albums. I have the ZIDANE soundtrack by them, and it is stunning.

joyboyo53 10-31-2007 02:50 PM

got 2 of their albums, if i get a chance ill upload them when HP sends me back my computer...

sleepy jack 10-31-2007 02:52 PM

Come On Die Young is a great album, Mogwai are my favorite post-rock band at the moment I think.

fleasbaby 11-04-2007 07:44 PM

A personal favorite for me under Mogwai is their collection of remixes "Kicking a Dead Pig"...always makes it into my playlists...

jackhammer 07-06-2008 09:38 AM

How good is 'Mr Beast'? Sensational stuff. Really digging these at the moment.

Piss Me Off 07-06-2008 10:07 AM

I'm not sure what my favourite Mogwai album is, it's between Mr Beast and the classic Young Team.
Young Team is one of the most intense albums i've heard. I mean, Like Herod, ****ing hell. It's the musical equivalent of being struck by lightning (i'm guessing). Young Team's one of those albums where something is revealed to the listener every time they play it, never gets old. This has reminded me that i reeeally need to buy the CD re-issue that came out recently. Live stuff, yum.
Mr Beast is easier to listen to and is more coherent. Has 2 of my favourite Mogwai songs, Friend Of the Night and the absolutely awesome Glasgow Mega-Snake. I think i listen to Mr Beast more often because of those gorgeous soundscapes.

jackhammer 07-06-2008 10:34 AM

Have you heard 'Government Comissions'? It's a collection of their BBC sessions from 1996-2003. Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant. I only picked up this and 'Mr Beast' last week for £3 each. Chuffed is'nt the word!

Piss Me Off 07-06-2008 10:37 AM

Naa, but that sounds good! Where did you get it for that much?

jackhammer 07-06-2008 10:42 AM

Local indie store. Always support the locals! LMK if you want GC. ;)

Piss Me Off 07-06-2008 11:06 AM

And i thought my record stores were cheap (a fiver mostly for some pretty hard to find stuff)!
I might have a look for it at some point, trying to tone down my download habits though!

pheurton 07-07-2008 11:05 AM

You are lucky, piccadilly records is a leech.

Piss Me Off 08-25-2008 04:14 PM

I'm going to stop downloading leaks at some point, honest.

GravitySlips 08-31-2008 07:46 PM

lol. how is the new one?

Rage Against the Machine 08-31-2008 09:08 PM

I have owned Young Team for a about 6 months, but never really "got into it", until this week. Great band. :)

debaserr 08-31-2008 11:09 PM

after first listen to Hawk Is Howling i have mixed reactions. its prolly gonna take a few more listens make up my mind

Piss Me Off 09-01-2008 03:46 AM

Yeah i still need a few more listens. It seems to follow the same formula as Mr Beast with the piano opener, damn loud song (Batcat) and the more catchy lead song (The Sun Smells Too Loud). Nowhere as immediate as that album though. It's not crap, that's for sure.

15Steps 09-02-2008 12:24 AM

young team is excellent, i have yet to delve into they're other stuff tho.

debaserr 09-02-2008 06:33 AM

if you have just heard young team i recommend happy songs for happy people i think its their most consistent album.

jackhammer 09-02-2008 04:50 PM

Mogwai are the finest Post Rock band full stop. To paraphrase Urban Hatemonger 'A brick left on a piano' has never sounded so simply brilliant. I am very surprised that their soundtrack for 'Zidane' is not mentioned more. It is a sublime piece of work.

FireInCairo 09-07-2008 03:19 AM

god i just got young team (forgive me i am but young)
i am having ear orgasms of the highest order
the dynamic transitions in like herod had me physically shivering!

Piss Me Off 09-07-2008 04:40 AM

Damn that song nearly blew my balls off the first time i listened to it.

FireInCairo 09-07-2008 04:44 AM

i was on the couch...
i nearly fell off

debaserr 09-07-2008 10:50 PM

i have anxiety and i usually skip like herod cuz it makes me jump every time. the annoying part is i really like the song tho.

Django 09-14-2008 10:49 AM
