I disagree with this. Can are generally the most revered 'Krautrock' band simply because no other band within the field has released as many consistently great albums. Neu!, Cluster, Amon Duul II and Faust are all brilliant, and all have released great albums - but with Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, Future Days and Soon over Babaluma - not to mention their earlier albums such as Soundtracks and Monster Movie which are often overlooked but still brilliant IMO... I just think Can have a superior back catalogue compared to others. I'm not saying bands like Faust and Neu! release mediocre albums (well, they have but so did Can towards the end) - Faust IV, Faust So Far, Neu!, Neu'75, Yeti, Wolf City, Cluster s/t and Zuckerzeit are all up their with the best Can output (well, maybe not Tago Mago but that's personal opinion). I just do not think they're as consistently and prolifically great as pre-1975 Can

Amon Duul II's Tanz Der Lemminge is such a classic, though. I love that album!

Finally invested into another krautrock band besides Can - I can already tell Faust IV is going to be a favorite someday.

I was in Germany backpacking recently, and it just so happened that a hostel I was staying in had a vinyl shop right opposite it. Man I rinsed that place. Managed to get hold of Guru Guru - UFO, Amon Duul II - Phallus Dei, Agitation Free - Malesch and Can - Soundtracks. Definitely need to go back.

i'm quite new to this genre so i'm hoping someone can help me out. i recently discovered Ash Ra Tempel while exploring the work of Klaus Schulze, and i am just floored by this track in particular.

where should i look for similar sounds? i've been bouncing around videos all morning looking through the big names in the genre, but can't find anything quite like this...

thanks

^I haven't heard this Ash Ra Tempel album. It's very different from what I've listened to, it was basically jamming space/psychedelic rock. Hmmm...but this song reminds me of some of the more easy going, mellow songs on Faust IV by Faust. Here's an example:

'It's a Bit of a Pain'
'Jennifer'

Also, have you tried Amon Düül II:
From Wolf City, their more conventional, rock oriented album:

But, for Amon Düül II, I definitely recommend Phallus Dei and Yeti, although I'm not quite sure what qualities you're looking for in kraut-rock.
