There's a lot of in between from casual music listeners and Internet music heads. Ignoring everything but the people who do nothing to drive the music world is sticking your head in the sand.

Look at the poll. Are 100% of music needs just entirely deluded? Maybe it's the seven that voted no that are being ignorant.

The poll is off because most people look at the title and say yes it's relevant because they love certain classical pieces and I willing to bet that hardly anyone that voted in the poll paid any attention to the OP.

It's the reason that we keep going back and forth and why I keep referencing the "today's music" aspect which would consist of Top 40 and Billboard Hot 100.

The people that voted yes are classical music fans but it doesn't address the main point that BD was trying to get across. I wish she would come back to join in on this debate and clarify it a bit more in the later pages.

Try again.

WHY or WHY NOT?

I know there are not a whole lot of people on MB who are active listeners of classical music, at least not to the extent that I am. But I know you all have opinions on everything else music related, so I'd like to hear your answer to my question.

EDIT: I have included a poll to get a more specific consensus, but I really encourage you to discuss why you voted YES or NO in this thread and why.

You must be interpreting this question differently than me.

What do you think she's trying to say?

Break it down, I'm all ears.

Crack the Billboard Hot 100 or the Independent charts?

Billboard Hot 100

I say, no. In terms of classical music, I think it's in it's own niche. Stuff like indie has it's own place and it is wildly popular, but you won't find too many people that regularly listen to classical anymore and it doesn't influence music as much anymore.

Yes, you'll still find classical radio stations and whatnot, but can you honestly name a lot of people who listen to it on the regular? Outside of like, band students, people who play classical music, etc.?

In that sense I think jazz has systematically replaced it as art music.

djchameleon 11-11-2016 11:08 AM

I do agree with you that in recent years Indie music has been getting more popular to the point that yes it has broken into the charts. Especially Indie-pop and Indie Electro type music.

Yeah, I love classical music but classical music fans are the main ones that are looking out for it along with band students learning music theory etc.

In my humble opinion classical music will always be relevant in human society, since is the first form of complex and very beautiful form of music ever created.
Maybe a trivial confirmation of the relevance, can be the fact that lots of television/radio advertising still use some classical pieces because they are simply known by everyone. Even people that don't like classical music know some classical melody.
