I like him too!! Listened to Blood on the Tracks and Desire today. Very good, as always.

Wow. I was just about to say where have you been? I thought you were inactive.

Just checked out your tumblr, very nice record collection.

Thank you! I put a lot of time into that collection. As for my activity here, I've just been in a Music Banter slump I guess. I've been lurking around still, checking out various threads, but just haven't been posting much.

I did finally pick up a copy of Self-Portrait, but the records are pretty noisy. I don't think it's a big deal since I'm not gonna be listening to the album a ton.

I`m such a copy-cat that I just looked at your record collection link too, Chives . I was very impressed by all the Beefheart, Eno and Fahey - three guys I really like too. It was also interesting to look at your day-by-day listening plans and stuff. You are clearly an enthusiastic collector.

I didn`t play my vinyl Self Portrait that much either; I got tired of jumping around to select the tracks I actually wanted to hear. Of the whole album, I think Copper Kettle used to be my favourite - because I liked Nashville Skyline I was looking for more of the same.

Beefheart and Fahey are two of my favorites, definitely. All the Eno records are from a box set I bought lately of his solo works up to 1983. I haven't even gotten to listening to most of the albums in it! Thanks for the compliments to my collection.

I really need to listen to Self-Portrait again before I say anything, but I'll say that Copper Kettle was probably the most memorable song on it...except maybe the Boxer but that wasn't memorable for the right reasons. It has been an awful long time since I listened to the whole thing, though, so maybe I'm forgetting something.

Also, the "comment of the year" is gone.

well, a collection like yours, and the trouble you`ve taken to present it deserves some praise. of the covers you show, i think taking tiger mountain is my favourite. i also noted the mirror man album ; i was pretty proud of having that too, as it`s not common in the uk, although i was a bit disappointed with some of the tracks. at times i felt the magic band had run out of ideas, but felt they`d better keep playing anyway. i prefered strictly personal, where kandy korn and mirror man really pack a punch. how about you ?

glad you liked copper kettle too, and yes, his boxer was compared unfavourably to the original at the time the album came out.

so that`s why i didn`t understand blasting`s comment.

sorry there`re no capital letters - i`ve fractured a bone in my hand and am reduced to typing with just one finger for a few days.

Didn't mean to be rude. Of course I wasn't talking to chives when I said that.

How did you manage to get that fracture? That sucks, bud.

I've only listened to Taking Tiger Mountain once so far...wait maybe twice. I just got that set of Brian Eno album so I'm still absorbing them...but all of his stuff has sounded good so far.

I have to say, I definitely prefer the Mirror Man versions of the songs over Strictly Personal just because I don't have to worry about production oddities throwing off my opinion of their playing. It doesn't help that my copy of Strictly Personal is worn and noisy and my copy of Mirror Man is a mint reissue, though. Probably sways my opinion just a bit...I listen to Strictly Personal as an artifact of the time and Mirror Man/Mirror Man Sessions as historical documents, or something like that. But whatever, they are all fun interpretations of the same material.

I still need a copy of Bob Dylan's official Basement Tapes album. That's the one Dylan record I'm still itchin for. Never seen a copy in nice condition, around here.
