Not true! Every once in a while somebody comes in, mentions that they like Bob Dylan, and then leaves. Those people surely appreciate our efforts!

I can't decide if I should buy a physical copy of Self-Portrait. My collection of early Dylan feels incomplete without it, but at the same time I don't know how much I'd listen to it. I've only heard it a couple times and at best I find it "sort of interesting." Is that enough to warrant a 10 dollar purchase? I can't decide, but the completionist in me wants to get it.

I'd say it's worth 10, just to have it. I have about 9 Dylan vinyls and around 29 CDs, obviously I'm saving it for last

Geez! So many! But I suppose that's what you end up with when you deal with an artist as prolific as Dylan. I think I have...11 Dylan albums, just on vinyl. Self-titled through John Wesley as part of the Original Mono Recordings box set (used to own on CD), then I have Nashville Skyline, New Morning, and Desire. I'd prefer to get a copy of Blood on the Tracks next, but I suppose that'd it'd be worth having Self-Portrait in the long run. I'll check the condition of the 10 dollar copy next time I'm there and see what's up.

New Morning and Blood on the Tracks are big missing pieces of my vinyl collection. Two of my favorite albums. I think New Morning is highly overrated. "Sign on the Window" is one my favorite all time Dylan songs.

If you hesitate between Blood On The Tracks and Self-Portrait, I'd strongly advise you to go for Blood On The Tracks first. One of the very best Dylan albums. It's as good as his mid-60s works.
I'm very interested in that vinyl stuff. In my country you can't never find a vinyl record of Dylan, so I just downloaded his complete discography, which is much easier and cheaper, though, but I'd like to have 5-6 of his best albums and listen to them oldschool style.

You`re doing remarkably well with your collection, chives ! I have( or had) 13 vinyl albums and 6 cds, but I had the luxury of buying them over the years, as they were released. I still remember the dilemma of buying Oh Mercy
, which broke my run of vinyls with a cd.

The problem with Self Portrait, imo, is that the style of the songs is all over the place:I never liked listening to it consecutively, but would jump around, one track here, one track there.

I`m guessing that you meant under-rated here, Blasting. Yes, Sign On The Window is a wonderful track. I love the resigned way Bob delivers the line " Sign on a window says three`s a crowd"

Oh, I've heard both Blood on the Tracks and Self-Portrait before, and I've been looking for Blood on the Tracks for a while now. It's just that most copies of Blood are more expensive than they should be or are in trashed condition, while I have the option to get Self-Portrait at a decent price at the moment.

Exactly! I've heard it a couple times and it's fascinating. That version of the Boxer...wow. And there is just so much content on Self-Portrait that it's just worth hearing every now and again.

Obviously you meant underrated! I don't even remember that song, honestly. Half of that album I basically don't remember. I just throw it on and it sounds pleasant. Perhaps another listen is in order!

Recently I've stopped buying albums on CD unless that's the only way the album is available. Otherwise I just listen to cd rips until I can get a copy. So if anything breaks my run of Dylan on vinyl, it'd probably be Bootleg Series 1-3. It's CD-only as far as I can tell. Some of the Bootleg Series have been released on vinyl (the concerts?), but frankly they are too expensive for the content you get so I don't plan on bothering. I love Dylan but I'm not going for 100% complete discography collection here.

Sudden boom of activity in here. Wowzers.
