I'd say the top are Rory Gallagher, The Pogues, Thin Lizzy, U2

Thanks for all the recommendations yall, the only irish country I really knew much about and loved is Daniel O Donnell

Quote:
I do love the Dropkick Murphy's though I rather more appreciated their earlier albums. I think they were more edgy-actually punk. Their sound now has changed into something lighter. |
Folk:
The Chieftains The Dubliners The High Kings The Irish Descendants The Irish Rovers Punk: The Tossers Flogging Molly The Dreadnoughts The Young Dubliners The Mahones The Pogues The Real McKenzies Siobhan Street Dogs (some Irish influence but more punk than Irish) Most of these are traditional Irish folk or Celtic Punk. Hope it helps anyone wanting to get into either of them. |
U2 have always been on another level.

Two of the most musical Irish acts, together:
Van Morrison and the Chieftains - Star Of The County Down Van Morrison and the Chieftains - Celtic ray |
Gaelic Storm
Happy Ol'McWeasel Young Dubliners Paddy and The Rats The Rumjacks The Golden Horde Not a band, but worth listening to, if you like good ol' Irish folk/country: Johnny McEvoy |
U2, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Sinéad O'Connor, Van Morrison, Snow Patrol, Enya, The Script, The Cranberries

Yes, those are some big names in Irish music, MofkA ! I notice that two are modern rock bands with their own songs, and two bands play more traditional folk songs. I prefer the more traditional artists myself.
