I have a question is garden a british work for yard, er, the damn the land around your house. I mean I know a garden can literally have plants and shrubs and all that good stuff in it but I've heard it where yard would've sounded better so I'm just wondering.

right-track 06-06-2006 02:54 PM

A garden is the British word for yard.
Yard in England is a flagged area behind terraced houses, usually containing an outside toilet.

swim 06-06-2006 02:57 PM

Thank you.

I like Fiona Joyce damn good folk music.

pretty good stuff, there are so many bands that you could easily compare these guys too, but in all, not too bad. Bet they would put on a good bar show.

right-track 06-06-2006 03:00 PM

Not many gigs due to the guitarist living in Sweden.
Although they are trying to get out to the U.S.

hookers with machineguns 06-09-2006 10:42 AM

The Chieftains. :D

bruise_violet 06-09-2006 12:49 PM

The Corrs :p:

Pogues...

Raine 06-30-2006 01:10 AM

I hear the phrase irish band and I think of Flogging Molly and then I think of going deaf.

Irish people should just stick to alcohol and fighting.
I hate to say something like that but Irish bands suck.

Uglycasanova 06-30-2006 01:14 AM

Ya I always think of FM and Dropkick Murphies(but I think thats cause of their name), but those bands aren't really Irish.

Piss Me Off 06-30-2006 03:29 AM

The Pouges and My Bloody Valentine

DontRunMeOver 06-30-2006 04:04 AM

Westlife and Boyzone. :D

One of my best friends is from Galway and she goes on about how good the Irish are at music. Judging by most of the evidence, this isn't true. There are only a few good ones I could suggest from memory.

The Pogues and Damien Rice (not a band, but hey). Van Morrison (not a band, but good all the same) and ASH are also good if you're including the Northern Irish.

The Cranberries are ok too, although they're probably easier to remember here for sounding very Irish rather than being good.

Ash is an Irish band?
Guys that made the CD 1977?
Well I guess I just learned somthing new today. :)

And the Cranberries are just tolerable. Nothing to write home about.

I'm suprised no one's mentioned U2 yet.

MURDER JUNKIE 06-30-2006 08:50 AM

Never EVER speak of U2 AGAIN!!!!

Probably because they don't want us to kill them. Why, are you mentioning them now?

I have no idea.

And it's not like I said whether or not I like them.
I'd like to remain neutral :)

DontRunMeOver 06-30-2006 09:17 AM

Ah, like Switzerland.

Well, U2 fall into the mediocre category for me. The guitar playing is good, the rhythm section is satisfactory and the singing and lyrics are (in my opinion) not any better than that found in your average unsigned band. I give them a C grade, good effort and attendance, but just don't have the ability needed to excel. The fact that they've become so famous with such a mediocre product suggests to me that they've been cheating.

I reckon that Bono is an ace computer hacker who hacks into the music chart databases to make it look like everybody's been buying their music.

U2 don't annoy me as much as some other bands because there are definitely worse out there. It's just their music isn't really my style I guess.
Granted I have seen them live and kinda liked it. . .

davidMC1982 06-30-2006 12:33 PM

If you like Folk check out Cara Dillon. Incredible voice.

Dave

People here HATE U2.

I love U2 though... So i just learned to tune out the haters.

Piss Me Off made a good call on The Pogues and My Bloody Valentine... There are certainly others but i can't think of any at the moment.

But every country has their good bands... People who think otherwise are just dumb.

Now I'llg ive my two cent on U2. i think they're somewhat overrated. I think their music is positive and somewhat uplifting. But the tone of their songs is just too cherrry for me to handle.
They're pretty good live though. but I'd never go see them unless someone else was paying for the ticket. I'd hate to waste my money, much less my time to see them perform.

And I've only heard a few things by My Bloody valentine, and definitely not enough to from an opinion since the only times I've ever heard My Bloody Valentine, I was a little preoccupied or in an altered state of consciousness.

_Spinning_ 07-01-2006 01:30 PM

Ah the good old U2 Debate...

Personally, I think they're fine...I mean, they have Edge on guitar and he is a rather talented chap...Drums & Bass are average - There to support Edge...

And Bono is just not quite with it...sometimes he just completely loses it and sounds like a cut cat....other times, he has the voice of an ... ... Nevermind.

But, in my opinion, They've done well over the years - But I think it's time they gave it up.

bruise_violet 07-10-2006 06:03 AM

U2 piss me off something shocking, it's more the hype over them than the actualy band, you know?

The Pogues

musiklover 02-13-2007 11:51 AM

Why do people here hate U2? I like them myself :)

Loser 02-13-2007 02:29 PM

I hate U2 they are way to popular for the crappy music they make, and doing a song with green day didn't help them get me on their good side. :)

right-track 02-13-2007 03:14 PM

I hate Bono for many reasons, mostly for having the audacity to say he was the best frontman of his time, following the death of Ian Curtis.

Edit: Oh yeah...and anyone that calls themselves "The Edge"...deserves hating!

MoonlitSunshine 02-13-2007 03:41 PM

Their older stuff is good, albums like Bad and Achtung Baby are fantastic. My favourite song is Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me from the Batman forever movie. Not a fan of the new stuff

sisteraysays 04-20-2007 04:07 AM

The Clancy Brothers are great irish folk
