Gérard Manset is one of the best french songwriter of the last 30 years. He isn't popular because he is very secret (no tv or stage) and too sofisticated for the actual standards.

But what a shame!
More seriously, you're not alone in that case but nevertheless French stage is very active.

This seems like a good place to post this. There was a french pop song I heard forever ago, I don't remember the singer's name, but her song was called "C'est la guerre", and I really enjoyed it, but I can't for the life of me find it again.

I really like Francis Lai's soundtrack to the 1966 film Un Homme et Une Femme. Really nice and moody chanson style songs with strong bossa nova influence.

A strange detail is that one of its songs, "Ajourd'hui c'est toi" has been chosen as the theme song for current affair TV programs in UK, Brazil, and Finland. Weird that the same has happened in three countries.
