Mumford & Sons
Having garnered much attention through a couple of E.P's, London's Mumford & Sons have recently released their debut 'Sigh No More' to great critical acclaim. Only time will tell if they sustain interest despite being flavour of the month. Playing an upbeat Folk sound with a touch of Bluegrass, the debut has me in raptures with White Blank Pageand Thistle & Weeds instant favourites. Here is the live vid for White Blank Page: and the new single: It makes a change for a new British band to not play formulaic white boy guitar pop. Let's see some love. |
They're based very near to me, and are always playing at a club in Kingston i go to. They're pretty decent, they're part of a local indie-folk scene thats risen in the last year or so. It's reasonably generic but there's a couple of good bands around, Kurran & The Wolfnotes in particular are really good.
But yeah, M&S have my approval, they're fun to see live, always a nice, party-like atmosphere. |
They are not wholly original I agree but it's just good to hear something a little different from our shores. Any ups for Kurran at all?
|
I can't fucking believe the lack of responses here. This album is absolutely kick arse. Despite the fact that you have to re click for the second vid to watch :(
|
I'm loving the folk-ness of these guys...any chance of an up? :D
Thanks for sharing! I thought I liked the first song more, but now listening to the second one pick up, it might be in the lead. |
Loving the first vid. The vocals are wonderful :)
|
I am starting to like the second song a lot more too. For some reason it reminds me of the soundtrack to 'Once' in it's pure sound.
|
I have no ups unfortunately my friend, the only released output thus far is the debut single, however...
Kurran and the wolfnotes on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads Also, check out Chess Club Records if you're not familiar already, some really good artists there. Exlovers, Cherbourg, Wave Machines, Jay Jay Pistolet, Local Natives etc... lot's of good bands doing smiliar but slightly varied (in some cases) things to M&S. |
Little Lion Man is quickly becoming one of the most played songs on Australian radio. I hear it all the time. Anyway, I think it's great because I love the song and am beginning to love this group more and more. Do you happen to have a link? :)
|
I heard these guys on the jukebox in the pub a few nights ago and made note to pay attention having seen this thread. I quite liked what i heard. I may check out some of their stuff.

^ Thank you! :D
I have listened to Sigh No More about 4 times already and I love it, and I think I will continue to love it! I was already familiar with and already fond of 'Little Lion Man' but was also really touched by songs like 'Timshel' and 'Sigh No More.' Great album, definitely deserves all the praise it has been getting over here! |
These guys sound pretty cool. Anyone got an up going?
Needless to say, I'll return the favour somehow. |
This seems relevant to my interests.
Seconded on the up? |
If anyone is still looking for links LMK and bane- fucking A for the avatar!

I'll take a link. The wife has been going on about this band lately and she likes what she hears.
In fact she's been raving on about them, so I'm keen to see what the fuss is about too. |
Just thought I'd let you know that Mumford & Sons' Little Lion Man took the #1 spot in Triple J's 'Hottest 100' which is run every Australia Day. It's basically a list of the Hottest 100 songs released in 2009, as voted by listeners of Triple J (Australia's most major alternative radio station). Most of you will have no idea what I'm talking about but it's a pretty big thing over here and to get to number one is a fair effort. So, yay.
|
I knew it would take the top spot from the beginning, happy for them. I really hate Parlez Vous Francais though, can't stand that it came in at number two.

To be honest I was pretty disappointed with most of the list though, but that's a whole other story. |
Yeah I listened to the Top 100 when it was played.
I would've liked Lisa Mitchell and Muse to be placed a bit higher, but I do think that Little Lion Man deserved the top spot. |
My favorite songs from the album are "Sigh No More", "White Blank Page", "Thistle & Weeds", and "Dust Bowl Dance".
|
I love their debut album, I want another. GIVE ME MOAR MUMFORDS! They're one of the few bands from here I really like at the moment, I hope they can get better and not slowly decline.
|
I've just recently downloaded Sigh No More and am really in love with it. They tend to be a bit cheesy and I think if I'd heard this album at a different point in time I may have passed it up, but I feel like I found it at exactly the right time. Really, really great stuff.

I have actually owned the Mumford and Sons cd for ages. I however lost it when my laptop broke. Yet to download it again, sigh :( Anyways. Yeah I love them. Haven't listened to them in ages so I can't remember what exactly it is I love about them :o:
|
Gonna watch them this Saturday, quite exited, I think they will rock the house. They have potential to be phenomenal live.
|
Oooh, I'm very jelous. Where abouts they playing? :)
|
They are indeed very good. I was first introduced to them when I went to see one of their supporting acts at a gig and stuck around for the rest of the show. Plenty good times. They also helped get started a folk night at a local plub which is one of my favourite ways to spend a sunday evening, but it's not been on over summer. Should be starting back again soon, hooray!
|
I'm at an absolute loss for words at the hype of these guys. I haven't heard a band that infuriates me this much in such a long time.
They are the recessive-gene'd love child of Joanna Newsom and Blues Traveler. Absolute fraudulent, manufactured enunciation, lyrics intentionally cryptic bordering on non-sense-icle, and music that is 1 half boring and the other half sloppy (again, sounds intentional). I actually get mad when it comes on the radio and the locla guys are blowing them up right now. "weep little lion man"? are ya ****ing kidding? |
A really great band, but actually a bit "too" acoustic for my taste :P
|
I had high hopes for these guys but when I listened to the album last night I was really disappointed. It was quite bland and uninteresting but then again I was in a very odd mood so I might try again.
|
I know this recording is very popular and I happen to buy a lot of music of this type but there's just something about it that holds me back. Just can't pull the trigger on this one...
|
I just ran across this video of them when they were on a local radio station earlier this year.
|
I'm trying to learn accordion and honestly, mines not even half the size of that ****ing thing.
It hurts me to think people can play that. |
these guys are my fav band thats come out in the last few years, I'm a folk nerd but when I heard little lion man for the first time I nearly had a eargasm, I've learned around half of sigh no more (the album) and I've turned alot of people on to em including my AP english teacher who now knows their music better than i do.
fav song is Roll Away Your Stone |
