Favorite Johnny Cash Song
Well since just about everyone loves Johnny cash, what are your favorite Cash songs?
For me, it's Hurt. A bit depressing but an awesome song at that. |
Whatever that last one he did i think it was hurt it was cool but depressing
|
A Boy Named Sue or Ring of Fire... Hurt was good but come on, that was a NiN song... at least listen to some true Johnny Cash before you say Hurt is the best

anyway... 1. "Folsom Prison Blues" 2. "Cocaine Blues" 3. "Tennesee Stud" 4. "Cry Cry Cry" 5. "Hey Porter" To be honest, I know only the basics when it comes to Cash. But I like just about everything I've heard. Other great songs in his catalogue, that I didn't include because he didn't write them: "I See a Darkness" and "Long Black Veil" |
Folsom Prison Blues.
For sure... A boy Named Sue is also great... |

What does any of this matter? Half the songs listed as favorites weren't written by Johnny. Hurt and Sunday Morning Coming Down are two of my favorite songs by him. Sure he didn't write them, but he didn't write A Boy Named Sue or Ring of Fire either. A Boy Named Sue was written by Shel Silverstein and Ring of Fire was written by June and another guy (can't remember his name off the top of my head) Even Folsom Prison Blues which everyone seems to love (don't get me wrong, I love it too) isn't entirely his. He is credited for writing it, but he stole 3/4 of it from another song. I'm just saying that just because he didn't write it, or someone else sang it first, doesn't mean it can't be counted as a Cash song. He definitely put his own style into every song he did. |
Get rhythm
It aint me babe. |
Walk the Line
|
Ring Of Fire, definitely.
|
Have you heard 'My mothers hymn book'? Its a gospel album but its deep and I guess it was quite personal to Cash. Its worth a listen
