Default Canadian Artists

To my fellow Canadians. What are some Canadian bands, that you think or thought deserved to get big outside of Canada?

I'm talking about acts like, Matthew Good Band, Age Of Electric, I Mother Earth, Moist, Our Lady Peace(although I think they've had moderate success outside of Canada) and to a lesser extent Gob.

What are your thoughts?

Is this a thread about bands that deserve to be popular outside Canada? I'm certain that there may already be a similar thread, but it's not turning up in the search. However, we also have this thread about Canadian bands who maybe shouldn't be popular anywhere else: http://www.musicbanter.com/general-m...tfully-so.html

I'm talking about bands that deserve more recognition outside of Canada. In my opinion Matthew Good is a great songwriter and has released some quality stuff. As has Our Lady Peace. Their first two albums Naveed and Clumsy are great 90's rock.

MG/MGB for sure.

Naveed was a really good album and Clumsy was pretty good but I think OLP went downhill after that.

I really liked Spiritual Machines. The rest not as much.

I have never been a huge fan of Our Lady Peace, but they do have a couple of good songs and probably deserve to be bigger than they are. I also used to listen to Matthew Good a lot before I moved on to other kinds of music. He has some really good stuff, that's for sure.

Sarah Cripps, I think she's going to be big in Canada, but would love to see her conquer the US market as well

I absolutely love Sarah Cripps. She looks and sounds so electric.

owen pallet, wintersleep, rural alberta advantage, yukon blonde, dan mangan.. A number of great bands that should be popular in the USA for sure. The rest of the world? A few of them may have the potential.

One band I wish I could see get more attention outside of Canada is Captain Tractor. Such a great band, Chris Wynters is a fantastic songwriter and they always put on a great show.

Some of my favorites:

from the album "Bought the Farm". I have had people tell me they cried upon hearing this, it seems to strike quite a nerve in many people. I can see why, very moving song that can be applied to almost everybody. One of my favorites from them.

from the album "Hoserista". Very much like "1000 Goodbyes" this one also has a great impact with many people who hear it. While not as good as the above, I still put it in my favorites.

from the album "East of Edson". Another great ballad, was a minor hit but not huge. Great song.

from the album "North of the Yellowhead". Not often do I recommend a cover, let alone a cover of my favorite song, but I do this time. They do this song wonderful justice, and while nothing can compare to The Replacements, they come pretty close here. Just as emotional as the original.

from the album "East of Edson". Same as above, another cover. But this one is a fun kinda celtic influenced tribute to The Clash. Very fun to hear live.

Those are some I would pick. Great band that doesn't get much attention outside of Canada. But they should be bigger than they are elsewhere.
