Ha yeah, I can't imagine Nevermind would work that well under those circumstances.

Pink Moon -- which seems to always be shrugged off as "depressing" -- is an album I can come back to regardless of mood and the message it conveys seems to change with every listen which is why I'd choose it. The two bookends really display this dynamic as "pink moon gonna get ye all" might seem sobering to some, but then there's From The Morning, a song I find quite uplifting in its tenderness and cautious hope.

I love Nevermind and listen to it still but come Lithium "YEEEEEEAH EH EH YEAH" I think I'd lose the will to live, given the circumstances of being on an Island facing death.

Pink Moon would just be perfect I think. It's an album I've only recently got into, I heard Nick Drake a while back and didn't really appreciate him and then when I revised him I listened to Pink Moon and I was wow'd by it. I never thought it had a depressing tone running through it even though "pink moon gonna get you call" = death(?) but I just found it relaxing, although that said some records that are "relaxing" it can just be a bunch of songs that don't have any identity, they just mash together and it's nice and relaxing but you don't want to listen to it if you don't want to relax. Pink Moon you can listen to in any mood. Really glad I found it.

That's definitely how I feel when I listen to Pink Moon. It's very dynamic in terms of mood and whatnot.

There's always been a lot of speculation about what the pink moon alludes to. It's surprising how much leeway for interpretation Drake has afforded listeners with such seemingly simple lyrics. Some feel it's death, the optimists out there feel it's love. Personally, it strikes me as a broader sentiment rather than anything specific. It's "the inevitable" which isn't necessarily positive or negative. It just is, it's real and honest.

I'm a pessimist so I think it's death, that's what I first thought when I heard it so I'm sticking with it. Although it could be a sentiment, the inevitability of no set thing. But I like to think it's death, I have no idea how a Pink Moon could relate to anything though. The name is so vague and doesn't really relate to anything (that I know of.)

Death is what most people I've discussed the album with associate the 'Pink Moon' with, likely just because of Nick's eventual fate. Felt quite right to me at first, but now I go by the non-meaning. It's that mystique that's likely allowed the album to grow on me like it has. This thread has inspired me to fix up my thoughts on Pink Moon... I need to give it some proper reviewing of some sort.

Certainly agree with this. Drake's writing on this record is just baffling to me (granted, I'm a bit of a fanboy) because the songs appear to be brief little pseudo-haikus or something yet every word or every line is its own universe and what he means by "pink moon" or "harvest breed" seems to change as my temperament does.

I instantly decided to run a search for "Nick Drake" rather than make a new topic upon joining; so here I am bringing this thread dedicated to such an amazing artist back to life. Riverman is beautiful.

Nick Drake was introduced to me by the movie Garden State and was solidified by the movie The Royal Tenenbaums, since then I have loved all of his work and read about his very very sad life, I really love his work a talent that needs to be remembered in more regard
