This is just a case of someone who is unable to exist in the world with a capacity of empathy and selflessness. These people are only aware of their own lives, and anything outside it is irrelevant and unimportant to them. Whether they choose this or not is down to a medical diagnosis of psychopathy, or a diagnosis of worthlessness as a member of a society. There is no reasoning with them, because such reason is alien to their lives either by choice or circumstance. One can only be thankful that there are still enough of us in the world who don't behave in such ways, and that we contribute to the balancing scale for as long as we can, else we become a disease of our own making.
I am often a cynic, but even I know the value of the existence of people in this world who do not contribute to such a selfish condition. However, I feel that it is becoming a rarer observation with the passage of time.
