But where are the people rioting in the streets over it? That's my point. Sure, it concerns them--it had better. But it does not outrage them the way the Michael Brown thing did and that much is undeniable. And I want to know--where is the outrage??

Once you call them there's not a whole lot the cops are gonna be able to do if the person/people after you actually do have violent intentions. Think about it. Who's gonna get to you first (if the cops even show up)?

to answer your question, yes. i am white and lived in ****ty neighborhoods almost my entire life. and you can say it's racist or whatever but i have black friends who admit to my face that if they didn't know me and they saw me walking down the street they might jump me just on the assumption that cause i'm white i might have money or an iphone or something like that. and where i grew up was mostly in south florida so really i know exactly how these kinds of situations unfold. the best thing to do usually is to mind your own until someone makes it impossible for you do to so, at which point you probably want to call the police if you can but either way at that point you have a right to defend yourself. but someone stalking you just isn't enough to give you that right legally. they have to basically start a physical altercation with you or at the very least verbally communicate a threat of violence to you.

The circumstances are wildly different. Black on black crime isn't the same as white figures of authority getting away with killing young black males.

Ferguson has had a racial division for YEARS.

It is one of the most racist locations in America.

I personally don't think these two situations have been exploited.

I think the media attention has brought attention to a problem.

Racism very much still exists and the law enforcement in this country is still not fair for certain populations/cultures.

fair point, i was referring more to the zimmerman case tbh.

to expand on this, if trayvon had a legal gun on him and a carry permit he still couldn't just turn around and shoot zimmerman for stalking him. but if zimmerman came up and attacked him then he could.

How do you know they are not outrage?

I am a African American and black on black crime is an issue that is very much talked about in my community.

It is also an issue that should be addressed.

I have never denied that.

However, I think that issue is rooted in a lot of classicism and the socioeconomic unprivileged that plagues certain communities due to poverty.

Zhanteimi 11-24-2014 09:17 PM

Being poor doesn't equate to being bad. There's no correlation there. Some of the best people who have ever lived on this earth were poor. Being bad has to do with choosing to be bad. Poverty is just an excuse. (And, yes, I grew up very poor white trash but chose not to go down the road of juvenile delinquency that many of my black and white friends chose.)

John Wilkes Booth 11-24-2014 09:18 PM

being poor gives people a pretty good incentive to be bad though.
