I think it would be more like the family would say he wasn't contrite; burn the bastard. At least it seems that way in the courtroom.

I still look back on Reagan's words after the Challenger disaster (It's one of the very few things I give him kudos for), and see that as the gold standard for presidential words of sympathy. And while Obama might have gotten us into a couple scrapes during his term, he didn't cause Sandy Hook which might have been his moment. It's a little harder to separate the other Presidents such as Bush who might have been using tragic events (9/11) for his own global policy (Overthrowing Hussein), but I can't believe they were bad people deep inside (the book's still out on the Clintons).

Anyway, I like to think that most of the Presidents (even Clinton) meant well when they offered sympathies.

They're ****ing politicians. Even if they did feel something resembling sympathy in their chest cavity, it's pandering for votes every time.

Yeah, but even politicians are human, albeit somewhat flawed.

Frownland 02-22-2018 08:48 AM

They're. ****ing. Politicians. Don't associate humanity with them.

I didn’t know some English people were upset with the queen when Lady Di died. She loses a family member then the public ****s on her lol

That’s a good one

I’m sure a lot of people would rather the president **** off when this **** happens

That’s why they vet people first

I figure that’s been the M.O. since around Lincoln (should mo be capitalized?)

The point about that was that people basically knew she didn't approve of Diana, whom she saw as not quite a commoner but at least not royal, and was probably pissed that her daughter-in-law was getting more press than her and people loved her more. She was silent on the princess's death, for a long time, which was a deliberate snub, and people saw it as such. She was the "people's princess" (who the **** coined that phrase I wonder?) and they saw the Queen as the evil stepmother or whatever. She miscalculated badly and it took some manoeuvring to get back in the people's good books.

^ Wonder no more, Trollheart! Alistair Cambell put it into a speech he was writing for Tony Blair to read out, and of course the press just loved it.....

Obama overturned laws preventing guns in checked baggage on trains as well as doing away with the requirement for guns to be in a locked glovebox when entering national parks or wildlife refuges. He did however have a couple of executive orders that amounted to "ffs people let's actually enforce these laws" that Trump has since overturned.

Trump issued the threat during a meeting with state and local officials on school safety and gun violence. He told Attorney General Jeff Sessions and others that his administration has targeted members of the violent MS-13 gang but has been "getting no help from the state of California."
Wait, so he turned a recent school shooting into a soapbox to race bait? Reagan's looking pretty good right about now.

Manafort and Gates are in deep ****:

Quote:

In the 37-page indictment, prosecutors describe a "scheme" in which the two longtime business partners allegedly laundered $30 million, failed to pay taxes for almost 10 years and used real estate they owned to fraudulently secure more than $20 million in loans.
Manafort is 68, and if convicted, would die in prison.

Trump is sweating bullets........

Frownland 02-22-2018 05:30 PM

You know in Raising Arizona how when everyone looks at they baby they say "ah he's gonna be a criminal, just look at the twinkle in his eye." That baby was Paul Manafort. To say nothing of the actual indictment, I seriously cannot think of a more criminal looking/acting/smelling human.

NRA uses a Parks and Recreations gif of Leslie Knope to thank their spokesperson after the CNN Town Hall.

"Within an hour, Parks and Recreation creator Mike Schur responded to the NRA, writing, "Hi, please take this down. I would prefer you not to use a GIF from a show I worked on to promote your pro-slaughter agenda." He also spoke on behalf of Amy Poehler – who portrayed Knope – writing, "Also, Amy isn't on Twitter, but she texted me a message: 'Can you tweet the NRA for me and tell them I said **** off?'"

"Adam Scott, who played Ben Wyatt, tweeted, "Hey nra please stay the **** away from Leslie Knope." And Nick Offerman, who played lovable libertarian Ron Swanson, told the NRA and Loesch, "Our good-hearted show and especially our Leslie Knope represent the opposite of your pro-slaughter agenda – take it down and also please eat ****." Aubrey Plaza then piggy-backed off Offerman's tweet, sharing a GIF of her own character, April Ludgate, quipping, "Burn."

Why the **** were the NRA getting so many arbitrary discounts? Too bad they're not getting them anymore or I'd buy a Glock.

Lisnaholic 02-24-2018 07:17 PM

^ Yeah I had no idea that NRA members got a bunch of discounts. As the NRA uses its money to wield political power, it's good to see so many companies backing away from abetting its financial importance. Go hashtag #BoycottNRA !

It's the same as joining AAA or AARP (to use two examples), you pay an annual membership fee and you get perks like discounted hotels, car rentals, insurance, restaurants, vacation packages, theater & movie tickets, etc.

Sad to lump the Gun Lobby in with AAA and AARP but I understand why.

Old white people love guns and hate brown, yellow, and black people.

I think you understood my point but just to clarify, I was just pointing out that large organizations/clubs with annual membership fees, typically offer such perks as some of the benefits of being a card-carrying member. AAA and the AARP were just the first two which came to my mind.
