It amazes me how little importance the US puts on maintaining a good relationship with Mexico. If tensions really got out of hand it could be a disaster.

I don't think you have to worry much; Mexico doesn't want any trouble with the US. When for decades you've been the neighbour of the most powerful kid on the block, you learn to be circumspect.

They paint Andrew Jackson up like one the greatest heros of all time. If you can make Jackson look good you can make Trump look good. Time isn’t being so kind to Nixon, however. TBH I don't think anyone gives the slightest **** about Andrew Jackson. Racist presidents before the Civil War get a pass, and no one bothers with the period between the Revolutionary and Civil War. The only thing he'll ever be remembered for is the Trail of Tears, so anyone who knows anything about him beyond the $20 bill will still think vaguely poorly of him.

Maybe the next presidents will be even more ridiculous asshats and Trump will pale in comparison.
