As many of you may have seen, the Digital Library of Alexandria burned tonight.

To all the musicians and contributors who helped build the planet's largest-ever and best-organized library - do not despair. We will return, bigger and better than before.

Damn you, 2016.

They mirrored Oink's send-off message - "So long, and thanks for all the fish."

Hacker News, The Verge, Spin.com, Gizmodo, The Fader, Pitchfork, FACT Mag, TorrentFreak, and Slashdot have reported the news.

Didn't that happen some time earlier this year? Some Russian site with a bajillion text books and ****? Don't remember the name of the site but it was big news and meant that I had to look elsewhere for my stolen digital comic books.

There will always be more pirates.

Edit: Libgen! That was it.

No torrent site has come close to the meticulous organizational perfection, the lossless archival standard, the immense sense of community, nor the massive scale of WCD.

When the Pink Palace went down in 2007, the community was similarly disheartened but determined, and WCD rose as its successor. I can only begin to imagine the greatness which will come in its next incarnation.

Libgen wasn't a torrent site.

I'm not sure why you're comparing Libgen to WCD. I specifically said that WCD was the greatest music site, and referred to its "meticulous organizational perfection, lossless archival standard, immense sense of community, [and its] massive scale."

Libgen is fantastic for its own niche, but my news post was about the loss of the greatest musical library of all time.

To be fair you did not, and if one was drunk it would be easy to miss the single mention of musicians that you made. If of course one was drunk. If.
