They barely voted in favor of talking about it.

Trump makes 'presidential' pitch at Ohio rally - CNNPolitics.com

I literally don't understand this. I'm probably being thick, but why does Trump need to campaign? Isn't he president now? Isn't all the work done? Have other presidents in history campaigned so soon after being elected? I'm really asking; I don't know. It just seems odd.

Now that there are no real restrictions on the amount of money a business can contribute to a campaign you kind of do have to perpetually smooze if you want to get those hundreds of millions of dollars. As far as I know Obama pretty much did the same thing, although I don't know if he started as early.

He does it to stroke his ego. This is probably the sixth or seventh rally he has since becoming President. He rather be surrounded by his supporters than in Washington dealing with what he thinks are unloyal backstabbers.

I see. I just don't remember anyone else doing it, though I'm far from knowledgeable about US presidential policy of course. I guess it's like taking a day away from the office?

On a slightly different subject, what do people think of his reinstating the ban on transgender people serving in the military, esp his reasoning?

djchameleon 07-26-2017 02:41 PM

Reinstating the ban has to do with whatever advice he got from the secretary of defense and other high ranking officials.

I don't agree with it but I'm fine with it because that is how they choose to operate the military then so be it.

The Senate failed to repeal Obamacare again even with the two year delay. They just want to get rid of it so badly. Before they were working on repeal and replace but they couldn't agree on the replacement so they just wanted to repeal large parts of it and figure the rest out later and that failed today.

He's still dissing on Hillary at these rallies too. His ego is still bruised every time the fact that she won the popular vote but such a large margin is brought up by the news.

A president getting elected and losing the popular vote has only happened twice since 1900. Bush v Gore in 2000 when Gore got 544 thousand more votes.

And now Trump v Clinton where she beat him by 2.8 million votes. Thats more than a 5 times larger margin than Bush v Gore.

That's also why he created the whole fake 3 million illegal votes story - as if there were they must haved for Clinton.

It still chaps his ass.

This is true. What's also true is that Gore won by a much larger percentage of the votes than HRC did, which (subjectively speaking of course) makes the 3 million number a lot less impressive.
