It's kinda ****ty that people have to behave like that just because they disagree politically. I'm not American, so I can't really tell how bad it is really is out there in "the real world", but it seems like your nation is horribly divided when just judging on the general atmosphere on the internet.

I couldn't ever imagine that kind of behavior among my own countrymen, even if people who vote for the completely opposing parties met in the same room. A basic sense of tolerance and respect seems to be missing in the US - or at least to be somewhat diminishing... thoughts from any US residents?

I said most. You're a top 5 member, by virtue of being distinctly non-douchey.

Lisnaholic and Trollheart are also on that short list. Everyone else is a douche. Who are the last two non-docuhes? That's top secret information!

Everyone in America is a reactionary right now and our deteriorating educational system combined with the embracement of anti-intellectualism has reduced our political discourse to emotional and tribal bickering. I don't think that it's just America, either. If your country was as large and diverse as the US, it might seem more realistic to you.

There's a lot of talk about fascist tendencies rising in Europe. I think a general rise in intolerance is a logical low-level companion to that. It's just no pronounced enough yet that I can really see it day to day - but I suspect thing are in a way going downhill in the entire "western" part of civilization.

*sigh*

What to do? Except just get drunk and hope for better times, of course.

Sadly, I can't be in the top 5 myself. Calling almost all members on the site a douche kinda makes me one myself.
