Internets.

The snitching thing was from articles talking about why Vietnam doesn't have any covid deaths. The others were from Wikipedia because I was curious as to why a socialist country isn't brought up a lot by socialists to argue in favor of it or from people that would use it as an example of the evils of socialism/communism.

Edit: I also read that they made anybody spreading misinformation about the virus pay a fine.

China's party doesn't believe it's communist, it believes (in theory) that China is the state that's meant to usher in communism
literally every "communist" state has been stuck permanently in the "transition" stage... Starts to make it seem like the method of transition simply doesn't work.

I mean it's the pretty standard "catch" you find with these beacons of hope... Severe crackdown on human rights... Any of the **** you guys post about our govt would warrant the death penalty there if it were directed towards the party.

I mean duh. The one thing democracy gives you is that your government has to pander to you to SOME extent even if they're gaslighting you into voting for all sorts of nonsense that isn't to your benefit. They might get you to vote for payouts to corporations cause what's best for business is best for the people, but secret police committing extra judicial killings is a much harder sell if your country isn't in chaos and you just want order at any cost. It's still a devil's bargain but all government is a devil's bargain anyway. Probably actually best to build a cabin in the deep woods and hunt rabbits while talking to a volleyball.

I agree... I think that's exactly why every major communist country has been poor and politically chaotic prior to the revolution... People in well functioning 1st world democracies are far too complacent to gamble on that sort of thing.

This has also been shown to be true just with communist or socialist parties in Western countries... The more liberal the ruling regime is, the less radical their major socialist parties are. This makes them more likely to compromise with the regime and thus less likely for the revolution to ever happen.

It's almost as if it is human nature to embrace conveniences (like their favorite drink at Starbucks, running water, functioning city services, etc.) as opposed to embracing higher risk and participating in political activities that will most certainly destroy those conveniences.

Humans are complacent and selfish by nature because we live in a world defined by scarcity. Those underlying traits are why the rich push hard to protect what they have at the expense of the greater population and why poor and middle class people tend to adopt their mindset if they manage to beat the odds on the finance side of things.

Because (best-case scenario) at the end of the day nobody really believes that anyone is looking out for them other than their close family and friends.

I would've thought fighting to climb the socioeconomic ladder is the opposite of complacency.
