Exactly. The Bible was written by obviously educated males who consisted of a very small percentage of the population at the time.

We're not saying the whole Bible is any one thing. We're saying that if there are these obvious moral flaws in this book, that it should not be used as a moral guide.

The best moral guide I can think of is the Desiderata.

I love its aesthetic...it really looks great
I love it's ridiculousness...they all believe in sky fairies!
and I love it's fanatics...poor blind brainwashed fools that they are, surely deserving of more logical folks pity.

It is funny how it works. If you believe in aliens, mythological creatures, or anything like that your crazy. But if you believe theres a big man in the sky helping everyone out your ok.

So I'm not big on church. In fact I really dislike church. And honestly it really hurts me to see someone who calls themselves a Christian and then shows hate onto others for believing different things no matter what it is.

I am a christian and here is what I have come to realize:
Jesus Christ is the son of God and died on the cross to save us from sin.
You should love everyone in exactly the same way He loves you and that is for exactly who you were, are, and who you will be.
I do not see it as being a set of rules that you have to adhere by or you are going to hell end of story. Yes people do things are probably immorally wrong and that you do not agree with. Yet you need to accept them for who they are and try your hardest to love them with all your heart.

I go to a Baptist college right now where we have chapel twice a week and its mandatory. I have set there many a times and listened to closed minded people preach to these kids who are mostly closed minded home school kids who have grown up in the church and basically been brain washed by there parents and the people of the church. And it really sickens me. When "Christians" set there and point out people who have sinned for things like homosexuality, alcoholism, and things along that line and yet they welcome people into their church who have been divorced. I am pretty sure Jesus had a hole hell of a lot more to say about that than homosexuality. If you want to know of someone who is down to earth and to me at least has things figured out check out a guy named Shane Claiborne. He has tons of videos on youtube. And even if you aren't a Christian and hate religion I think that you can set there and listen to him and be like "Hey, I may not agree with some of the things this guys says about Jesus, but he is at least living a selfless life and making a difference in this world." If more Christians like him then I dont think this world would have so much of problem with Christianity.

first...it's SIT or SAT, not SET...

*whew* sorry, had to get that out there....

Now on to your actual post, this is basically the viewpoint of the christians that I am friends with. They see the bible as a historical document of the beginnings of their faith, and jesus as an example for living without judgement and with tolerance for everyone. Which is why I'm friends with them; they're tolerant of others and don't push their religion, it's simply something that is important to them and that they believe in, and being such good people, I can respect that.

HAHA sorry about that. I typed it up pretty fast and didn't really proof read it.
I know that to a lot of Christians doing missions and trying to push your religion on people seems to be a big deal. But I just don't really like it. Sure if people ask me about it then I will tell them how I feel and will even get into a debate with them about different topics. But I just feel that living by example is a much better way of doing things.

Its ideals are good, but it is so littered with room to misinterpret that none of it applies.

So incest, misogyny, condemnation, racism, infanticide and filicide, homophobia, genocide, bigotry and not shaving, worshiping false idols or working on sunday are good ideals? And you're okay with the miseducation of young and impressionable children and then forcing them into cult institutions where they have to learn to externalize blame, feel ashamed over natural things, to judge everything as right or wrong and be a warrior for a fictitious space god who they're also encouraged to have schizophrenic discourage with?
