You're probably more liberal than most American Dems if you consider yourself a socialist.

Yeah, "socialist" is a pretty dirty word here in 'Murica.

In the US at least, the green party has capitalized on the anti-corporate movement (i.e. occupy wallstreet) and other youth issues like student loans.

Can one actually vote for other parties than the Democrats or the Republicans at the election?

I believe so. I don't actively vote but I think when they send you your ballots in the mail, you can vote for other parties as well as Dems and Reps.

Technically yes, but not really. Every once in a blue moon a third-party candidate will run for, say, president, but there is almost literally zero chance of them getting elected. All they'll accomplish is taking away votes from whatever party they're politically closest to.

Well, in Norway we can vote for a broad selection of parties, ranging from Marxism to economic Liberalism. Keepin' it simple. To me that seems much more democratic than having to choose between two or three candidates you might not even agree that much with.

Yes, PR is a better system, although it can sometimes give the extremes too much power.

Yes you can vote for third party candidates. However, third party candidates are physically restricted from going into national debates and nobody that would vote for them has much hope for them.

I think the US democracy is a bit tainted if all candidates are not given equal opportunities. A change of the general system, which is desperately needed, is virtually impossible as things are now.
