Okay? I do understand that, but I also feel that someone who comes to debate an issue should have a proper background on the controversies surrounding it.

Wether debating in a school yard or in a pub or maybe even online; people only bring up examples they know about and care enough about to remember, no one can have a proper background and be adequately prepared for a debate because there is too much happening in the world to know everything that goes on in it. Instead of expecting other people know the example you give you should present it in your own arguement and show why it is one of many examples that you feel happens all the time.

I didn't denounce you for bringing up the incident of the firefighters test takers, I was trying explain that sometimes you have to elaborate on an example because something that you consider common knowledge may not be to other people. I didn't denounce you for bringing up that case to, I just thought what you said put the onus on other people to know what you meant about the case in New England. I don't know what to make out about it. On one hand the complainant sounds like he is part of a minority in America, Italain-American are only 6% of the US population. (Christine Ricci even though has an Italian name she considers herself Scotch-Irish and they are about like less then 2% of the US population.) So being poosibly an Italian American (and even if there is a small possiblity the complainant was Scots-Irish) he doesn't earn protected minority status, which is what I got from reading the article on wiki - the city was force to disregard the the test because it excluded members of a protected minority.

I could not link the second hyper-link you provided so I had to use Google to learn more about the case you mentioned.

In the case, I'm pretty positive it was not about being "Italian-America" and what not. According to the information provided, it was more about being "black" VS "white," which is race, not ethnic background.

Not sure where you're going with your post, but the point of including that article is to provide an example on how PC goes too far, e.g. the tests were disposed of because "white" firefighters did too well, and the "black" firefighters did not follow suit, so they did not want all the "whites" to earn the promotion. It runs along with, I don't know if you have heard of this, but "affirmative action" and such. It is basically minorities receiving better treatment than white people, because of slave reparations and ridiculous beliefs like that. I don't know on you, but I have never owned a slave, nor have I ever segregated between blacks and whites, so if I were in America applying for that job, I would expect fair treatment in regards to employment and promotion opportunity.

And that, my friend, is why I posted the article. "Italian-American" aside, because ethnic background is trivial in this example.
