Yeah once you know about it the web is great, but how does one find out about it in the first place? I'm lucky i discovered it through this forum. I reckon that 90% of the population here in the UK probably don't have a clue. It is scary how much power the media has over us, and in a way it's our own fault due to our passive nature. I think we need to know about these things.

On the one hand, what you don`t know about, you won`t worry about.....It does have some advantages. Now that you know you`ll be far more likely to worry about this flu. But as you say we are very media controlled.

Well, with certain issues yes, but in regards to a disease which has infected over a million people in 3 weeks, i think that's something you need to be aware of. I'm not particularly worried about it at the moment, but it's something you SHOULD know about.

That blackening of the lungs sounds nasty.

I've gone back to the beginning of November on CNN's website, Fox News' website, MSNBC's website, and CBC's website and none of them have any mention of this. That's what's terrifying to me, that something is killing people in the Ukraine and turning their lungs black, and all I'm hearing is "if you shake someone's hand it could kill you". I know that's exaggerating a bit, but it does scare me to know that the real threat is going unheard while all we're getting is healthcare reform bullshit and idiotic swine flu tips.

It all does sound scary but like SARS it could all be over in a few weeks and swine flu is now very grade B news, I also remeber the ebola virus in Africa (I think that is the correct name) was capable of wiping out a large % of the planet and it never happened.

Given that its only in the Ukraine at the moment its quite localized, Ukraine is not like Mexico, so its not a country that tourists really want to go to, so less chance of it being transported around the world, problem will only really start to get serious if it breaks out of Ukraine`s borders and as the Ukraine borders the EU this is serious, given the EU`s freedom of movement.
