Civil Partnerships / Unions / Whatever you want to call them vary by state. I don't live in California, so the partnership you reference does not apply to me. I live in Kentucky, where same-sex unions of any kind are not allowed. You don't have the ability to visit your partner in the hospital, no rights regarding monetary issues, things of that nature.

It'd help your argument considerably if you'd ever bothered to check out facts.

You can still adopt. If one of you adopts the other, you have even more rights than a married couple.

Gay people have been doing "adoption" for years.

the first time I saw it was someone I went to high school with. the kid was pretty much always on his own, because his parents were losers, and he was very streetwise, and had to fend for himself. We ran into him once, and he had a nice car. Naturally, we wondered where it came from, and he said he had a friend that was looking out for him, and even "adopting" him. Of course we thought it was strange, to have someone adopt an 18 year old, but didn't really pry. We went to his house, or actually trailer, and his friend was older, and had a kid. He was very swishy, but we thought nothing of it, because he couldn't be gay, after all he had a kid.

So we're sitting around, smoking pot, and some neighbor, a redneck starts running his mouth, so our friend went out side. Being our friend, we joined him. It ended up being a baseball bat v. pistol standoff. And my friend's new "dad" broke it up by threatening to call the poleeth.

Years later, I ran into someone else, gay, that had an ethnic last name he obviously wasn't born with, and he explained it.


and then looking back, I realized our friend was a homo, and the redneck assumed we were too.


You don't have to take their name, but legally, you're family. And it is a lot harder to undo than a divorce. If it can be undone at all.

Also, marriage is not a church thing, that's why non-religious people can get married too.

Try telling that to the Catholics. Marriage can be with a judge, but the original idea of marriage is a vow, between the married couple, & god.
And the person performing the ceremony is a priest, rabbi, and so on.

and even if it is ever legal, most of them will performed by a judge, because the church ain't having it.

Once again, as I said, it IS equal, because a straight man can't marry another man either.

Also, I don't know where you're from, but where I come from we don't believe the Federal Government should tell law abiding citizens what they should do in their own home. And we don't allow laws to effect people differently.

You either strike the laws on marriage, or allow any two consenting adults to engage in whatever contract they want. Religion has nothing to do with it.

Is it balls. Marriage in it's myriad forms was around for hundreds of years before religion decided to make it a 'contract' through it's nefarious ways.

Marriage at it's most basic form was a way to unify communities or certain section of communities to enhance trade, social relationships or to try to ensure that heirs were produced to continue rule over a kingdom and therefore provide legitimacy and factions that disputed any claims couldn't dispute these unions.

For a non religious person to get married in a church does seem to appear hypocritical.
However, this is the 21st century and the church needs to catch up, or be left behind.
If the church refused to marry ALL people not strictly conforming to their specifications, then there wouldn't be many people paying for the pleasure.
And that wouldn't do, would it?
So the church takes the money knowing that the couple they just married won't be darkening their door again until the oncoming Christening of their first child.
So now, who are the hypocrites?
