I've always wondered about the wisdom of having the legal age to drink so high. Teenagers as a mob (there are always exceptions) will generally do something if they can, especially if it's illegal. increasing the age isn't going to stop them drinking, and it'll probably lead to more irresponsible underage drinking in the process.

It's an outdated system to say the least, and in the US it seems it takes a bit longer for laws and systems to change, despite the ever evolving social attitudes. There seem to be many people who'd rather stick to an ineffective way of doing things rather than bother changing.

Whats ineffective about the law? I don't think it was made to prevent anything more than mental development issues.

All I'm saying is doesn't it seem just a bit silly that as "legal adults" you're still not entitled to something like drinking? What about the age 21 is so different? Why isn't that the legal adult age? I'm not necessarily knocking it, I'm just curious.

Let's not try and derail this thread with the legal issues of drinking alcohol in the U.S. especially when it's worth a thread of it's own.

My question - which MB member was taking the picture?

right-track 11-20-2010 12:56 PM

My guess would be Mr.SubmissiveHusband?

someonecompletelyrandom 11-20-2010 12:57 PM

That or The Unfan.

Or a retired astronaut who just happened to be passing at the time.
