Regardless of how over or underplayed it is, depending on the group of people you're talking to, it's still a problem that needs to be addressed. It goes beyond brutality. It's the way cops are viewed in American society. Unless you have a connection most people are intimidated by cops nowadays (in my experience). People get nervous when a cop is behind them while driving. People just expect to be harassed by them now unless they are called for help or show up during emergencies. It's not like it used to be where cops were a part of the community.

I know where I grew up a large portion of the harassment came from rookie cops, young arrogant pricks, trying to make a name for themselves or look good for the department. Idk, if that's just young cop mentality or pressure from the higher ups and concern for their careers, but my god is it ****ing annoying.

Never had problems with the police, so I have no frame of reference, but if the problem isn't being reported correctly then it's possible that the wrong questions are being given the wrong answers. Sensationalism does not lead to logical discourse or constructive solutions. It just leads to witch hunts.

I've never had a problem with them either, but I see and hear things that happen to other people. Here's an anecdote for you: My car got smashed by a drunk driver while it was parked in front of my house, and the cop who shows up is giving me advice on how to **** the person over, telling me to lie about stuff to get her in more trouble, and extra claims I could make for insurance. I called him a scumbag, and went inside. Seriously, you're a cop in a 2 sq mile town with a small, relatively close community, and this is how you act?

Also, how do you report a problem correctly? I'm pretty confident anything you try to say and do will fall on deaf ears most of the time.

Yeah, that's ****ty, but like you said, it's an anecdote. I had a cop who gave me a reckless driving ticket give me a break while speaking to the judge in court. I still payed the ticket, but he could have gotten me on more than just reckless driving. Doesn't change anything about the bigger picture though.

By being accurate.

Now, the just as the FBI had warned, the number of white supremacist members infiltrating law enforcement has soared.

Between the years of 2008 to 2014, that number of documented infiltrators rose from just shy of 150, to one thousand. Even worse is the fact that most of them were never fired after their hate group affiliation was discovered.

Wow! That is kind of disturbing. I am sure that most police officer are trained professionals, but that definitely undermines the notion of equality before law.

I wonder if people tied to white supremacy or ultra nationalism, (whatever your ethnicity may be) are more prone to have authoritarian personalities, and are therefore drawn to professions like policing? and if so, I wonder how many are in the rank and files of the military?

that's what i'm thinking. they're probably into the idea of being in a position of power especially being above those people that they hate so much. it makes sense.

The fact that this is turning into a KKK argument is hilarious. Not only that, but people seem to constantly connect the KKK to anything that has to do with race, instead of looking at the facts and noticing that race isn't even an option when the criminal is literally a criminal. These kinds of conspiracy theories are exactly why the media needs to be better about what they show.

the KKK has nothing to do with race? Are you ****ing stupid?

and it makes TOTAL sense that racists and supremacists would want to be in positions of power. TOTAL sense. i don't know why that's so difficult to understand for you. i'm not saying ALL cops... nobody ever said ALL cops. so stop acting like that's what i said.

these are facts. i've provided links and proof that there are lots of cops who have connections to the KKK. show me proof that i'm wrong then i'll consider believing you. you keep making it seem like i'm the one making ridiculous claims here when in fact, you're the one that has no evidence of the points you make.

Never said KKK has nothing to do with race, but the fact that it continues to be brought up in arguments that have no call for it, is what I'm saying is stupid.
