I don't know what the mechanism is, I just know that it's what the research shows.

I don't really care how long I live, so long as it's not short enough to cause others too much pain, or so long that I'll want to do away with myself because everyone else has died.
Well, for me, dying at 40 would mean dying three years from now so I see a pretty huge difference between that and living another four decades. If that doesn't matter to you, that's your right, but many people would prefer to live longer. As I said before, it's all about personal preferences.

I never said having children guarantees anything. But it's a simple fact of life that after a certain point it gets harder and harder for people to care for themselves. For people who have children who care about them, this is when those children generally step up and help their parent. This is the social contract many people choose to live by, and I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. If you want something else, that's your right, but it's unreasonable to expect everyone to share your preferences.

This is the same crap that every young person says. When you actually get to 40 you'll see that your life isn't basically over.

My brother and his wife recently had a child and, I must say, my brother has become a much more patient and sillier human being because of it - both fine qualities in my book.

For some people kids are great.

I'm already 25 and I can see the fine lines setting on my face. I'm apprehensive about aging already.

And this is the same crap every grown up says about what a young person says. Being young doesn't automatically mean you can't be in control of what you do with the rest of your life. In most cases, it's better to know what you want to do with your life earlier on.
