Why are people so butthurt about having privilege? Just because you have privilege doesn't mean you have had a perfect life, just that you have had it considerably better than others. Some people are so ****ing grossly self centred, this thing is to make you more self aware, it's not the oppression Olympics

I got a 43 the first time around. I don't follow any religions so by not checking them I think I got a lower score. 54 the second time around.

Interesting quiz, always something I try and remind myself. Being more or less straight, white, and a male, in Amureka I've got it relatively ****ing fantastic. S'more about my input into my life than it is anything else. The only reason I got a somewhat lower score is because my family history is a little messed... but so is just about EVERY****INGONE ELSES. Sometime that **** gets me down though. Quite refreshing. I am priviliged, shan't forget it.

I know, right, I have a messed up family too, but I didn't understand on the quiz why things like "My parents are still together" or "My parents are married" (or whatever it was) would make a difference in terms of privilege? But yeah, right on man - positive post.

57/100 - With commentary:

RACE

- I am white. Sorry.
- I HAVE been discriminated against because of my whiteness. Especially when having black professors.
- I can't remember whether I've been the only person of my race in a room. Probably not. There's at least one or two white people everywhere you go.
- I've been mocked for my accent. I'm from Louisiana.
- Can't recall anyone saying I'm hot for a white guy.
- I have been a victim of violence because of my race. Sometimes you can't be a white kid in a black neighborhood safely.
- Definitely been called racial slurs. Cracker, honkey, etc.
- Have been told I sounded white (at least, whiter than other white people)
- No one has asked to touch my hair or if it was real.

SEXUALITY

- I am a hetero. Sorry.
- Never lied about that, although I did allude to being gay out of a joke, but I left this as no.
- Of course, since I'm hetero, I've never had to "come out". This and a lot of the following points are superfluous in terms of scoring privilege by points, and I'm not sure why the editor felt the need to include them except to make hetero people feel worse or score higher as to say, "hey, you're so privileged, go help other people out".
- Therefore, I have never doubted my parents' acceptance of my sexuality, because why would they, I'm straight, and had plenty girlfriends.
- I have been called a ***. Everyone has. And because of the superfluous questions, I did not mark this question.
- I have never been called a ****, because it's completely irrelevant to my situation and not even a good insult from some obnoxious teen to say to a guy.
- Fairy, or other derogatory slur? Ok, this is getting repetitive and score whoring. But I'll be honest and say that no, I haven't been called a fairy, even as an insult. +1 privilege.
- Another one. No, I haven't tried to hide my sexuality.
- Sure, I'm comfortable with PDA. -1 privilege for absolutely no reason.
- No, I haven't pretended to be just friends with my SO. That doesn't make any sense at all. How would you get laid then?
- I haven't been ostracized by "my religion" for sexual preference, because I don't do religion.

RELIGION

- Never been told I would burn in hell for being a hetero. Here again comes the myriad of things that all make the same point, designed to make heterosexuals more "privileged", according to Buzzfeed's "scoring system".
- No, never been told my sexuality was just a phase. If someone had told me that, I would have told them to seriously check some statistics.
- Never been violently threatened because of being a hetero.

GENDER

- I'm a man. Sorry.
- Yea, I feel comfortable as a guy. +1 privilege for being comfortable in my own skin.
- Yep, I still identify as a guy. + 1 privilege because the above point apparently expired.
- Never tried to change my gender. +1 privilege because both of the above points somehow became irrelevant. (shaking my head)
- I haven't been denied an opportunity because I'm a guy, that I know of, but then again, I've never tried to join the girl's softball team.
- I definitely DON'T make more money than at least the females I work with that are in the GENERAL field. (They're programmers and fetch more at this place). But I do make more than the office secretary, what with me being a high level IT guy, and her answering phones. Weird huh?
- I've felt unsafe, but not because of my gender. More due to environmental circumstance.
- Catcalled? Not sure what this means, but girls have whistled at me. Even had one checkout girl in a grocery try to get my number. THE F*CKING NERVE OF HER. Felt so violated...
- Haven't been sexually assaulted. Yet.
- Never been raped. +1 privilege to add to the above.

SUCCESS

- I work a salaried job. This is because I went through hell and applied myself and succeeded at achieving a career with very little help. Had I not, I'd be working at McDonald's along with everyone else. This is a bullsh*t point.
- My family and I have DEFINITELY lived below the poverty line. It's how I grew up.
- I don't have any student loans because I never took any out, because I never went to university because I could never afford that. +1 PRIVILEGE FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO AFFORD UNIVERSITY... srsly?
- Have definitely gone to bed hungry.
- Never been homeless. But honestly, I don't think a guy having slept on the couch of a buddy's house for a few months because he didn't have anywhere to go is the actions of a privileged person. +1 privilege anyway, lucky white guy!
- My parents pay none of my bills, because I'm a grown man with a job. +1 privilege for not being a failure.
- My parents pay none of my bills, again.
- I don't rely on public transportation, because I saved enough money to buy a second-hand truck. +1 privilege for you, sir.
- I don't buy new clothes once a month because my 2+ month old clothes are fine, and I don't mind that they're not brand new. Plus it saves money. -1 privilege for you, sir, for being financially responsible.
- I always do my own taxes. Anyone who takes the standard deduction should be. It's easy as sh*t, and free for Federal at most places online. Why not save the money? -1 privilege for being financially responsible 2 times in a row...
- I've definitely felt poor. When you once wrote hot checks to buy groceries, you can go ahead and -1 privilege.
- I definitely used to worry about making rent. Half the time I couldn't. (It's because I was a drug addict, not under-privileged, just a f*cking idiot)
- First job was a waiter at a cafe. Quit after a week, that sh*t wasn't for me.
- Yes to unpaid internship. As part of the community college program I took, one of the semesters was internship. Everyone had to do it, and I ended up having to fix computers at the college. +1 privilege for not being able to afford real college.
- Multiple of those? No.
- Summer camp? Hell no. We went out back and played in the woods during summer.
- Private school? Hahahaha no.
- Did not graduate high school. Dropped out after 11th was over, got GED, and now I make bank. +1 privilege. I didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen...
- No elite college.
- Did graduate a 2 year college. Guess I'm clicking that check box.
- Parents didn't pay anything for my tuition. In fact, I had to help THEM out with most things.
- No car in high school.
- Had plenty of roommates, still do.
- Never actually had cable TV in my entire life. Conscious decision, though. -1 privilege for being financially responsible 3 times.
- I have traveled internationally, because Army. +1 privilege for having to spend 2 years in combat zones. But actually, I definitely consider being able to DRIVE to Paris and Amsterdam from Germany quite a privilege. It was just a temporary one.
- I don't do that once a year anymore, because no longer in Army.
- Didn't study abroad.
- Never skipped a meal to save money. +1 privilege for knowing the value of nutrition required by the human body.
- I know what Sallie Mae is but I haven't taken out a student loan. Wasn't sure how to answer this one, so I just left it blank to be literal.
- I never spent Spring Break abroad.
- I don't have frequent flier miles.
- My parents are heterosexual, yes, and they're very much alive and married. +3 privileges, even though those 3 facts don't actually affect me in any way other than them needing money and being general wrecks.

DISABILITY

- I'm not disabled physically.
- I do think I have a social disability, sure. -1 privilege even though I learned to be successful in spite of it. (no one cares, throw money at me)
- No learning disabilities.
- No eating disorder, unless you consider gluttony to be a disorder...
- Yes to depressed before. I think everyone should click that one, whether you realize it or not.
- No to both suicide points. +2 privileges for not wanting to kill myself. Gee, the standards are getting pretty low.
- I definitely take medication for my mental health. Alcohol.
- Yea, I can afford alcohol.

WEIRD CATEGORY FOR SOMETHING CONSIDERED PRIVILEGE

- I've been told I was too skinny when I was young, now I'm told I'm not skinny enough... heh, but I can't help drinking all this beer. -1 privilege bro
- Second one is basically the same as the above.
- I've been told I could gain a few pounds when I was younger. It was a shame, because I couldn't. Now I laugh in their face.
- I don't consider myself attractive. That would be weird. I leave that up to the ladies to decide. They seem to think so, so I said yes to this. +1 mega privilege
- Can't afford a therapist on the basis of the fact that I'd be throwing money away that could be invested somewhere that would actually work for me. But hey, I'll just say I can afford one to be literal.
- Definitely used prescription drugs recreationally. +many great nights.
- Had an addiction. Still do, although it has changed forms.
- Shamed for religious beliefs? Yea. Christians tell me all the time that I'm going to hell for being an atheist.
- But they haven't threatened to get me there early.
- But they haven't tried to get me there early. +2 privileges for the crusades not still being a thing.
- There is no atheist worship place in my town.

ETHNICITY

- It would be hard to lie about being an American in America. +1 privilege for lack of options.
- Never lied about not having a religion.
- All my jobs were ok about me not being religious.
- Not nervous in airports because I'm never planning on doing something illegal in them. +1 privilege for not having anything to hide.
- Never heard the secondary passport control thing. Guess I don't travel enough.
- Never been called a terrorist.
- People have DEFINITELY tried to "save" me for my LACK of religious beliefs.

ONLINE?

- Never been cyber-bullied, because when I was young enough for that to have some sort of effect, the internet didn't exist, at least in the capacity that it does now. (there were tubes, but there wasn't a series of tubes)
- Was bullied as a child a little at school, not much. Just a few instances. Nothing major.
- Never distanced myself from any of my "identities", whatever that means. +1 privilege for ignorance.
- Never been self conscious about any of my "identities"? Don't know what that means, so +1.
- Never questioned any of my "identities"... Another +1 for ignorance.
- Last point, do I feel privileged because of the identities I was born with? Ah sh*t, I thought for a moment they were talking about like, online identities. Can't be born with that, so I'm assuming they mean personal identity. If that's the case, then no, I don't feel privileged because of who I think I am. I feel proud of who I have become.

+1 perspective.

How Privileged Are You?
You live with 43 out of 100 points of privilege.

You’re not privileged at all. You grew up with an intersectional, complicated identity, and life never let you forget it. You’ve had your fair share of struggles, and you’ve worked hard to overcome them. We do not live in an ideal world and you had to learn that the hard way. It is not your responsibility to educate those with more advantages than you, but if you decide you want to, go ahead and send them this quiz. Hopefully it will help.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stupid quizzes like this make my day. It's like playing Candy Crush. Think I'm gonna take the 'What Color Dragon Are You?' one next.

Also apparently being confident in myself is quite a privilege, a good portion of these had to do with self esteem. Thank god for narcissism. No shame here, I think I'm awesome, and it really is a nice privilege.

I think you're all awesome too! WE'RE ALL AWESOME, THE BEST 'US'S WE CAN BE!

I don't really get the public transportation question. I was dependent on public transportation for 14 years of my adult life and it doesn't mean I was underprivileged, it means I lived in cities where owning a car wasn't necessary.

Exactly, or that public transportation was your choice. There are heaps of questions in the survey that come down to choice or other circumstances unrelated to privilege:

-I don’t have any student loans. I CHOSE to save my money during my first few years of full-time work while my colleagues were partying it up so that I could pay off my student loans. It doesn't mean I'm more privileged than them, it means I didn't spend my money on socialising and dinners and partying and booze... friends of mine who I studied with, from similar backgrounds and on the same salary of me still have student loads purely because of how they chose to spend their earnings.

-I don’t rely on public transportation. What Janszoon said.

-I have never worked as a waiter, barista, bartender, or salesperson. I worked in these fields while I was studying, doesn't mean I'm underprivileged, it means that the conditions of the job suited a student lifestyle.

-I had a car in high school. Not relevant in Australia because you don't get your license until you are 18, and when I graduated high school I was 17 (same with all the "spring break" questions and stuff, we don't have any of that...)

-I’ve never had a roommate. Don't see how this is relevant to privilege.

Etc.
