I cared enough to ask.

The point is that it's just an excuse for the aristocracy and those who hang on to them to hunt animals for sport. There's nothing humane about it (the dogs are allowed - encouraged even - to tear the fox to shreds) and there's no sense of "oh this is a cull" or anything; it's purely barbaric blood sport and the English seem to think (some of them anyway) that it's an acceptable way to behave, and that, more, it's their god-given right. So yeah, among those who a) hate the upper classes b) love animals or c) have any sense of right and wrong, it is a big issue. You ever see the protests against these things?

Come on it's not an English thing, it's toffs and Tory boys who love it.

Frownland 05-12-2017 12:26 PM

That's the impression that I got from my limited knowledge of fox hunting, that it was more of a class thing than an ethics thing since this doesn't seem to apply to other areas of hunting (though I might be wrong on that). Hunting in general checks the "inhumane" and bloodsport boxes imo.

Plus, I don't know if animals deserve to be treated in a humane manner. There are animale standards that are more suited to their relationship with man.

I did qualify that statement. What I mean is no other country (SFAIK) does it. Do they? We certainly don't do it over here. We had coursing (greyhound racing with real hares not electric ones) but I'm pretty sure that's been banned. Other than "Hunt the Nordy" I don't think we have any real legal bloodsports.

So hunting is illegal in Ireland?

Most people don't like fox hunting because some blue socialists like it.

Open borders seems to be the biggest hurdle. One I couldn't ever get over. But it seems as though many Libertarians have kinda done an "ignore the old testament" on that issue.
