he quite literally committed a crime, whether anyone agreed it should be illegal or not.

What crime?

He was charged with disturbance of the peace.

He gave information in court that was already publicised by others.

No, he was given permission to say his peace, siting publicised imformation within a speech is allowed.

“Contempt of court is a criminal offence that can see people jailed for speeches or publications that create a "substantial risk that the course of justice in the proceedings in question will be seriously impeded or prejudiced".”

i.e spreading biased information with an attempt to cause an uproar

If the publications were so biased and so obviously used with then intent to cause commotion the why was he not charged for it?

And if they were, does that make it okay to impression a man for over a year within a 24 hour window for standing up against a gang of rapists?

Has he been put in prison for 13 months? Sentences work out low. Don't think he will have got a reduction for an early guilty plea but isn't going to serve 13 months and he'll be able to serve part on tag as well, so more likely it's 3-4 months.

How do you know he was in contempt of court if you haven't seen the publications he sited?

Again, if they were what you think they are, wouldn't he of been charged accordingly?

Edit: So, apparently 'Breach of the Peace' isn't even a criminal offence and can't be sentenced with either time or a fine.

If that's the sole thing he was charged with, how can he get 13 months.
